Can't decide whether to de-register DD2

DD1 is already home educated and we love it. We get to learn about what she's interested in at a pace that she's comfortable with.

School isn't suiting DD2 though. We have no diagnosis for her and we know there's a long road ahead of Us. So my question is, do I follow my heart and send the de-reg letter in tomorrow and begin home schooling Caitlin with Lauren, or do I stick it out?

The school hasn't done Caitlin any favours at all. It's a free for all with no structure. It's been put in special measures by ofsted.

  • Thanks Crystal :)

I wanted to home ed both kids from the start but lacked confidence I suppose. A massive weight has been lifted and I think we're all more relaxed now x

  • hi again Caitlinsmum - you sound like you should have been a teacher.  Good luck with the home ed.  You sound more relaxed, which can't be bad. x

  • It's more the fact that they can't seem to get out of the special measures. But yes, I totally see what you're saying.

Caitlin is 5 and Lauren is 8. I spoke to our regional representative from education otherwise yesterday and made the decision to de-register. I believe fully that for the moment, Caitlin will be more comfortable and confident learning at home. She's always joined in with Lauren's home schooling when she's been at home (the way I school Lauren means that if she asks about something it doesn'tmatter what time, or what day it is, we'll get the books out and we'll learn)

So here's to our first day of official home education for the whole family :0)

  • What is the age difference - that might be a factor.

I've not done home education, but if i was doing it for one and I think it would work for the other I  would do both as it gives you so much more freedom as to when you education them both.

A school is special measures is not a bad thing - once they hit special measures an enormous amount of support/ money  is put in by the local authority
