I have another question, if they have funding, are you getting eny benefit for it?  Any equipment they have bought for your son to use in school?

A question for someone else to answer - how long can the school 'save' the funding for, if they don't use it by the end of the year, can they save it until next year.

  • hi thanks for replying . yes i was told they have recieved it but they dont "want to waste it " due to him having time off . ive been taken pictures of things such as his bite on his neck and i was thinking of starting to write down everything because to be honest when hes not in school hes talkin or at least trying as much as he can but when he leaves the school after a day there all i get is "go away" and he crys etc  thats not my son . i was going to move him but with the funding i was worried if he would get the help from another school .

we first found he had autism the summer he was 3 so just as he was about to start school. we have meetings every 6 months or so with a speach therispt, his teacher , consultent  someone from the child education an sen but last time i saw the lady from education was over a yea ago . i did recieve a letter from his consultent saying he had autism and the school took photocopy of it but i dont know if it was statment as such .

i also wished for him to be in a school more suitable for his needs but the consulent said try mainsteam first . i feel like im just banging my head against a wall  at one point i was going to take him out of school and home school him as hes learned soo much from being at home with me , his speach picked up etc .

  • So, they have applied for funding, have they received it?  If they have and you are not seeing the 1:1 then you can go back to the council and ask them to investigate that the cash is being used appropriatle.

Do you have a formal diagnosis (sorry if this offends, but it is important), is this diagnosis accepted by NHS in your area?

Do you have a Statement?  If not apply for a Staturory Assessment today (well, tomorrow).  However be warned that you are opening a can of worms here as every (and I mean every) department will close ranks - they will talk to each other.

Start keeping a detailed diary, take photos, make note of all verbal conversations, everything, even if it's just a quick phone call from school to say he fell over in the playground. Even record when you have tried to call someone and not got through - you may need this in the future.

Make some hard decisions, are you really benifiting from this school, is it worth the fight or should you cut your losses now and move on.  Also decide whether mainstream is really the best, or even if Education Otherwise might benefit your son.
