Housing advice/thoughts

So my 8 year old son is diagnosed autism & ADHD. We have been on the housing register & in temporary accommodation for 3 years (at a locations approx 5 miles from his school & support network) I have 3 children in all.

I was told I could make an medical priority application but would be worse off as I would lose my 3 years Waiting that goes towards my success at bidding for properties.

My sister has a friend who has just been offered by the same council a house with garden etc... because her son is ADHD not diagnosed yet but going to be diagnosed.

i feel like the housing Have been giving me the run around all these years & leaving us in this temporary flat in a terrible location no matter what the nightmare is getting to schools, appointments & support networks.

any thoughts or advice about this?

  • Hi California I agree there should be better housing support for all with autism Adults & children. Unfortunately even children with autism are not priority when it comes to housing as we also had to share bathroom & toilet etc... in temporary accommodation & that is what my post is about. Would seem some people manage to get better support & priority over others regaurdless of circumstances.

  • I am autistic and I was living in a shared house. That was an absolute nightmare. My anxiety was sky high.

So, I understand, how horrible one can feel in inadequate housing.

Other people in the house were noisy. One liked to watch football loudly, other two invited guests and even had parties. Once the house was full of people and I had to leave as I could not cope anymore.

    It was an absolute nightmare.

I was so desperate and found another place. Which was a lot better but still noisy people around. Drunk people, who made noises. I started to get eczemas as I was constantly anxious. So, I moved again.

I wish there would be suitable housing for the autistic people.

I wish there would be support for autistic adults as it looks like children get priority but autistic adults are left suffering.
