Currently listening too Blut Aus Nord - What Once Was Liber I. So it's safe to say next I will be listening too Blut Aus Nord - What Once Was Liber II
Yeah Zombi are comtempory. I think they've get 4 album. It is a bit prog'ish. They're on relapse records, which is typically an extreme metal label.
I like a fair bit of stuff that is actually just noise, with some minimum synth pads over the top. Or in some cases, feild recordings with effects. I used to enjoy using a kaos pad, and a sequencer but what I was making wasnt really sounding to good. Fun tho.
Reasons sequencer is a bit rubbish to be honest, but its good with other packages.
Goatworshiper said:Ive just checked out Belbury Poly (when I looked up Ghost Box records). Really cool stuff, I love ambient electronica when it's done well. It reminds me of Zombi but without the bass line: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LRrULd9aOQk
Ableton's a good program. I can't play, but if I could I'd use it. Far more fun than Cubase. Reason is a good add on package through re-wire if you like soft synths.
Had a listen to Zombi......are they comtemporary?.....reminds me a bit of tangerine dream.....
Have thought about getting Reason as I like the fact it all there in one place...sequencer, synths FX....very tidy.......But I have got really used to just Ableton....The constrictions of using just one program are probably a good thing for me as I already get a bit lost along the way....
....my laptops getting slow too.....
Most of the stuff I do with Ableton doesn't involve actual 'playing' of an instrument as such. I really shoud expand my knowledege of musical theory. I really like the way that music is just a system with rules and patterens. Although I can't help thinking that the current musical notation system is probably not the most logical as it is tied to its historical evolution...... I am probably just making excuses as to why I am not an amazing piano player...

Meads of Asphodel addiction kicking in:
The Excommunication of Christ
The Murder of Jesus the Jew
The Mill Hill Sessions
Jihad - split ep with Mayhem
Ihsahn - Eremita.
Listened to this a fair few times today. I really love the songwriting, technical without being boring. Quite melancholy too when the clean vocals happen.

The music in my head - which is currently a small snippet of the Frozen Synapse soundtrack.
Just checked some of this out on youtube, sounds good.
Amazingly good considering it's the soundtrack to a computer game produced by a small (2 or 3 person, I believe) independent Oxfordshire games developer, don't you think?!
You may (or may may not) like this bunch; Little Death Orchestra
I do indeed, thank you.
Love that style of music.
Yes it is really cool especially when It's been done very low key. I'd never heard of it TBH until it was mentioned on this thread. Therefor my discovery of the day, cheers ;-)

It sounds different but has a similar ethic, classic combined with electronica.

Grand Magus - The Hunt. Superb album.
Ulver - Childhoods End. Better than I expected, re-workings of pyschadelic songs from 66-69.
Ramesses - Posessed by the rise of majick.
Went to see Aura Noir live the other day. Absolutely fantastic. Must go try to see them again.
