Fluffy Bunnies

Hey.

I have 13 rabbits. Until last Friday i had 14. :( I lost Twitch.

They are my inspiration to life. They keep me motivated at my lowest points and i have full blown conversations with them.

They are my babies. I love them dearly. The dirty parts of it that go with them too!

Anyone else have a fluffy, feathered, scaly friend?

  • Rabbits are lovely especially the big cuddly ones.

I have budgies a male and a female.

  • Hi,

i know this thread is old but i wanted to congratulate with you. You live in my paradise. I have two bunnies myself, they share my room with me (everything was bunny-proofed before they moved in of course).

Holly, my oldest, comes from Italy. I got him when I still lived there, so I had to go get him and we travelled by train and ferry to London (I got him a supersized carrier for the journey and let him stroll with a leash whenever we could stop so he was comfortable enough).

i dream one day to have enough space to keep as many bunnies as you have

  • I have two rabbits (I have had four in my lifetime)- a nearly 6 year old Netherland Dwarf called Oren and a 2 year old crossbred called Pandora (and yes, now you realise why I have this username... lol). For the sake of Zosie (who seems to have the same belief I do), my rabbits live together in a double decker shed and run in the garden with another enclosure we can add on when the weather is good. :) I'd love to give them more room but I still live with my parents.

I also have a British shorthair cat called Blitz (more commonly known as "Doo Doo" or simply "the cat") who will be 19 this year.

  • You felt I was judging you cos I was, well, or at least being curious to find out more anyway. I know of people who collect animals just for the hell of it, get some and are thrilled with the new arrivals and then lose interest in them and they end up cooped up in some small space without much attention or getting mucked out often and then the people get another animal. That hacks me off. & some rabbit hutch sizes really annoy me, you know new ones that you can buy in shops, they're outrageous. It makes me so sad to think of all the rabbits in the world just squashed into small hutches or enclosures with barely room to hop about. Glad you've got some runs, hope they're well used.

My rodents are in a big indoor pen, the pen is almost the size of the room, I call it my rodent room. & the rabbits have an outdoor pen which is about the same size. I like animals to have nice enclosures and freedom.  Talking of small enclosures; birds in cages is another thing that saddens me.  Those cages with just one bar on seem barbaric. Frown  They're meant to fly and not spend their whole lives just sat on one perch.  Wish they could be banned.

  • Zosie why do I feel you are judging me? Yes 13 is a lot but we cre very well for them they have hutches and we have three runs thank you. It isn't hoarding I know people with many more than me and I rescue them From poor homes. They are very well looked after, happy and healthy. :)

  • Aren't 13 rabbits a handful? That's borderline hoarding isn't it? Undecided Why do you have so many? I have a couple of rodents, two is enough for me. If you have 13 do they have enough space of their own? Big hutches or pens?

  • My wife and I have a dwarf hamster called Stripie.  He is three years old, so will probably die soon.  I really love him, but I'm worried he is getting too old.  But he sill likes playing in his ball and digging open his food parcels.

I'm going to be very sad when he dies.

  • Hi I have 5 cats and 3 kittens - 3 chickens and my daughters house guests 4 ferrets - we love them all very much - and I personally get great pleasure just from watching  their funnY antics - they are part of my family and even at my lowest I have always said I could not leave them

  • I had a dog called Jessy when I was growing up. She died when I was 15 (Jessy was 16), and I  am now 25, with no pets. But Jessy was irreplacable, and I feel that getting another pet would in some way insult her memory - silly I know, but feelings often are irrational! In any case, I am phobic of dogs I don't know, apart from particular breeds that are known for their soppyness, like retrievers. Jessy was there since I was born, so she was just like any other member of the family. She was a welsh collie cross welsh spaniel: red and white with a bushy tail, spaniel ears, pink nose, large brown eyes, white patch on head, white neck, white red-speckled legs, white underbelly, red coat and red white-tipped tail. She was a medium sized dog, but quite small really. She had a lot of hair and was very cuddly, and super friendly! Would never hurt anyone or any other animal, although she tried to chase cats, but if they stood their ground, she cowered behind our legs!. She was a softy with a heart of gold. I miss her a lot and often think about her. I cuddled her to pieces, kissed her, held her paw, can still distinctly remember her waggy tail and soft eyes - her eyes were never threatening, unlike human eyes!. She was my baby. RIP Jessy

  • I never had hamster but never know they only lived for 2 years reptiles sound like a big responsabilitie I thought snakes were slimey animals until I held my friends and it was smooth they are. One of my favirote animals thanks for the advice I am going to look into getting one I know a few of my friends have them and say they are great pets
  • 3 cats, 1 dog, (they're considered family pets and don't technically belong to any individual in the house, we're all responsible for their care) and at the moment, 3 leopard geckos (who I care for solely, no one else feeds them etc). Soon, 2 leopard geckos and one bearded dragon.

The important thing when thinking about getting reptiles is to do TONS of research. Before my mum even allowed the thought of me keeping geckos (she was aiming at getting me a hamster, I wasn't keen on the thought that I'd be getting attatched to something that dies within two years :( ) I did about two months of research on gecko habitat, the price of all the products, food, the different morphs (coloured types of gecko) and I had to pay for all the care of the geckos when I got them.

Reptiles rely on you to give them heat, the insects and suppliments they need, and in the case of most snakes, the mice/rats they need as part of their diet.

Bearded dragons are considered one of the ideal starter pets for new reptile owners, the reason I didn't get a beardie first was because leopard geckos are the absolute easiest of reptiles to look after: bugs, heat mat, water, and a few other bits and bobs. Beardies need a bit more specialist equipment (shes made me do my homework on them too) such as UV bulbs, fruit and veg as well as bugs.

My cousin had a snake for a while, a royal python that was gorgeous, only downside was that he had to keep frozen rats in the freezer with the families frozen peas, and he had to boil the frozen mice/rats prior to feeding the snake.

Another important thing about reptiles, they can live for up to TEN years. Its a massive commitment, nothing like keeping a goldfish or rodent. I've been taking tons of photos of Bones (the gecko thats being swapped) because I do love him dearly, its just I know he'd have a better life if he was able to get paired up with a female by someone who can look after him and his babies.

  • How many animals do you have altogether cats dogs. Reptiles it would be intreasting to hear I have the one kitty my mum won't let me have other animals I would like some'dragons my self maybe a snake
  • My family has always had two cats when I was growing up (Minnie and Max) who I was raised with and loved dearly. When they passed away, my mum got a kitten (Thyme aka Teeny/Princess), then a dog (collie cross named Logan), then my sister and I got two kittens a year later, Smokey aka Fatso and Smudge (Smidge). Smudge wasn't planned but he started crying when we took Smokey out of the cage, and because we're all a bunch of saps we just had to get him too. :)

Since I was diagnosed with Aspergers, I bought two female leopard geckos (Goth and Emo) for company, as mum thought it would be better if I had pets that relied more heavily upon me (Fatso just eats, purrs, and sleeps XD). I bought another gecko (Bones) who turned out to be a male. I'm devastated as it means I can't keep him with my girls, but we've decided to swap him for a bearded dragon (I'm obsessed with dragons) at a lovely large reptile centre so that Bones gets to live in a better enclosure.

Its nice having a variety of pets all in the same place, the cats are great for cuddles (when they tolerate my clingyness) and the dog forces me to go outside to walk him, but I adore my little reptiles because a) They're so cute, b) they like sitting on my shoulder while I do homework and c) they're just so pretty!

  • It is very nice for me to have my pet as she is a comfort to me when i am I'll or upset I don't like her sleeping in the kitchen though just on my bed by me
  • I have my kitten maleficent named after. Sleeping beauty witch she is black and has cute little ears like horns hence her name she sleeps on my bed with me at night
