I would be very concerned that my child was in a unit full of children with behaviour problems. Given the right kind of support an autistic child can flourish emotionally (not always academically) and as part of every child matters and inclusion, your child has a right to be included in a regular class and a support structure in place to accomplish this. Autistic children are very black and white in how they view things, if they are only seeing children with behavioural problems, not only can they be munipulated quite easily (which i found out with my daughter with awful consequences), but they see that kind of behaviour as normal and can quite easily behave like that aswell. How do you explain to a child with autism that just because the other children act like that it doesnt mean that you do, because from my own experiance, it took me years to get my daughter to understand that.
Although when it came time for my child to go to secondary school i considered a school with a unit, due to not wanted to subject my daughter to "normal" teenagers and their bullying. I then later found the special school she is at now and glad she didnt have to go to the school with the unit.
