My son has just told me he has been turned down from joining the TA because he has Aspergers, surely this isn't legal?

It reminds me of the old saying about gay soldiers "don't ask, don't tell". Autistic people have been used extensively by the military. Turing's probably one of the best known examples, but there are numerous others who just weren't diagnosed.
aye, and once they rejected me they tossed away any chance in hell they can hope to press me into their armies if ww3 breaks out any time soon lol i wouldnt fight for them in war time if they refused to give me a place in peace time... id refuse to be used like that, disrespectful of them to reject you a job in peace but expect you to be forced to join in war. they can feck right off, im more likely to join the other side now than theirs given the other side havent yet had a chance to reject me and make me feel unwanted in society lol
yeah the TA being just part time reserves youd think theyd allow anyone... but they dont, probably because they are trying to run the military cheap, so they are making the reserves/TA be the main core force of the british army while they keep cutting and sacking the career main branch standing army. pretty risky to have your nations military might be reliant on its civilian reserves
aye, it is legal, the military have a exception and allownace to discriminate based on mental things or disabilities.... i got rejected from the navy, im not even diagnosed with anything, just in the interview they pry into your life and they saw that i have no social life and so on and found it suspicious they said... so i guess they even suspected something along the lines of asd and they are allowed to reject for that, they need their troops to be social as communication is key in the armed forces.
try any of the Irish regiments --- it is allowed I'm afraid. But the Irish boys are a bit more flexible. If u have any Irish roots mention these of course.
Also try the Royal Logistics Regiment ---- they are all into driving lorries and ambulances and moving stuff. But again they are more flexible on who they take.
or if he can play an instrument he could join as a musician or ask for that path ---- they dont have to do as much running or gun related stuff
BTW I think there should be autistic only Corps in the TA especially. It could work with some minor changes.
