ASMR Videos on youtube

Hi

Autonomous sensory meridian response (ASMR)

I've been trying to finds ways to distract myself from extreme despair, anxiety & depression. After doctors refused to help.

I found ASMR videos via youtube. These are free videos people make about numerous topics. Often the person is quiet, whispering or they make interesting sounds. It may work best when using headphones/earphones.

The intent is to promote a euphoric experience characterized by a static-like or tingling sensation on the skin that typically begins on the scalp and moves down the back of the neck and upper spine, precipitating relaxation. You can experiment with different topics & styles to see if it works for you.

Just putting this out there, as I didn't discover it until a few years ago. It won't 'cure' autism, but it's helped me cope with mental difficulties better. Maybe it could help others.

  • A friend of mine recently had very severe depression. One psychologist advised him to watch asmr videos, and these videos helped him better than special pills. Thanks to such videos, his mood improved, and his anxiety disappeared. The doctor advised him to try recording an asmr video and see the result. I decided to support my friend [link removed by mod]. I can say that it helped my friend, he became very interested in creating such videos, and his depression began to recede gradually.

  • But that head tingles phenomenon is very real. I remember getting that in the public library when a child. Hushed voices, pages being turned, the soft electronic bleep of the pen that scanned the barcodes when someone was being issued their books. It was like a warm shivers through the brain - leaving a light euphoria afterwards.

  • I occasionally dip into those. It's a strange area to naviagte as some of them seem designed for tingles of another nature, but one person doing them that seems to have a purer vibe and who I think sets the gold standard is Bluewhisper on YouTube. Interesting how ASMR tends to skew towards videos not podcasts - easier to monetise and make a living I suppose, but it does muddy the waters slightly for some more channels about what is bringing in the views/listens.

  • Now it is becoming very popular! no matter how paradoxical it may sound - quiet  ASMR has caused a stir! lol

  • I don't trust them, it feels weird.

  • TLDR; I agree with original post.

Although i think the beliefs surrounding ASMR are... bullcrap/ridiculous, to say the least. I won't deny it can be very relaxing, depending on what you're looking for.

In terms of helping with depression? ehhh it's hit or miss. On my proper low days it's useless, but on the lesser modes of depression i find myself in from time to time, yeah, it has been somewhat helpful.

As unusual and bizarre as ASMR seems (because quite a few of them are unusual and bizarre), don't knock it till you tried it. Take it from me, a true skeptic/cynic.
