  • its hard to go through a diagnosis and many people arent as informed as they should be so without having people to talk to its difficult...you can always get hold of me on my email too ***** and i started to write a blog last year which many help you www.autismandlove.blogspot.com where i put down all my experiences, thoughts, feelings and events of raising two autistic kids! my youngest daughter jesse has severe autism and learning difficulties (this will be confirmed on wednesday offically) she has no speech at all (at 2 1/2) and issues around rigidity and anxiety whereas cody (3) he has language but no communication skills...he echos film and tv constantly, can act out and recite the whole of a film but cant ask for a cup of juice! its very hard to place him on a scale really as he capable of so much but is really trapped by his autism so we're having difficulties trying to decide where the best education setting is?

you will go through alot of thoughts and feelings on the diagnosis and we had alot of our family in denial too, its only 9 months down the line that people close to us are being to accept it and work with us but to help me i threw myself into research and reading (so if you need any help on benefits, diagnosis, education, law, support groups, funds and grants etc just ask!!) and joined every group, forum going so i understood what was happening. but every day is a challenge in many ways some good some not so but now you have the help it will get alittle easier just make sure you are firm on what you want for your son. in term of your other child, theres no way to be sure, in our case it jesse was autistic too but for many families that doesnt happen but atleast you'll know what to look for to get early help...stay intouch and shout if you need anything, and do take a look at all my old blogs as i write about alot of stuff tht many help you get your head around it all xxx
