son waiting on assessment for ASD

Hi all i am new to this site, looking for some info and help,

i am a mum to a 6 yr old son who has bin a challeng since the age of 18 months, he would take his nappies off when he went for naps and play with is poo and put it all over the cot and walls, then at the age of 2 when he went into his big boy bed he would wake up durring the night and line up all his toys in the dark, he also started humping his pillow and big soft toys and started to take is clothes off witch to this day he still does, and at this point is walking around the house while i am writting the post. naked, he was fast  at crawling and walking, he didnt started talking till he was about 3 and half he got SLTwhile he was in nursey, i was for ever getting pulled up from nursey teachers say harley is not listening hes hit other kids he runs about and doesnt do what he is told, he can not follow rules, he woulnt share. everyday was somthing diff, then he started school and he has got worse since hes got older his class mates are scared of him he doesnt get invites to partys, he goes about the play ground playing on his own in his own wee world, hes right into transformers i mean right into it he can tell u everything about them. u to  ask how was school today and hes like i did nothing or its i played, he cant seem to keep his hands to him self, so in jan of this year i took harley to the doc and said i think my son has ADHD, so got referred to CAMHS in edinburgh so far this year they have only seen him twice so i called up lasted week to see what was going on, and had i app for today in this is what they said, they dont think harley has adhd and that he show signs of being on ASD range but it hard to say because he talks alot, i am alright starting to feel low and lone.  no one i know seems to understand harley and how i am feeling.

  • Hi,

Hang in there, its tough at this stage of trying to get help and nobody seeming to understand. Insist on a referal to an ASD specialist for a full ADOS assesment. Speech issues are only one part of things that they look at. At least if you get a full assesment done it will answer one way or another.

Also do you have a SENCO? (special educational needs coordinator, or something like that, i cant remember what it stands for exactly) at school a child is entitled to help and support regardless of if they have a diagnosis or not. So your child should be getting support.

Ring the helplines from this site to get some more detailed advice. remember you are not alone on this site there is always someone who will listen and answer any questions you post.

    take care
