Autistic characters in children's books

Hi,

I hope I'm posting this is the relevant section. I'm currently writing an essay on the representation of autism in children's books for my degree and wondered if anyone on here had any thoughts or opinions (good or bad) on this topic?

I've read some amazing books but there isn't a lot of research on this particular area of children's literature. I'd be interested to hear people's personal opinions. Do you think there is a wide enough representation of autistic characters? Are charcters well rounded or overly stereotyped? Have you read any good (or bad) books with characters on the spectrum?

Why not look up Jessica Kingsley Publishers. They have titles for young people's fiction that is appropriate to autism

curious incident of the dog in the night.... well worth the read if you want to research all this. Whether it aimed for children I don't know but the older child might read it. I read it well before received diagnosis.
