My son was diagnosed with Asperger in 2009 when he was 7. I was relieved in a way to finally have a diagnosing, and felt it was up to me to move us forward with this. I found the most helpful thing for me was the Cygnet programme a five week course run by CAMHS it's a fantastic support for parent of kid's on the spectrum. I finally feel I know my son, our relationship is better, I can manage him in a more positive way. Life is not easy as I have four younger kid's, but I have tried to absorb as much info on ASD, and feel that things could be much worse. The key is to understand your child and their needs, by basically getting a bit obsessed with all things ASD. The hard work will pay off I promise and you will be able to move forward with your child and give them the help and support they so deserve. I wish you all luck. X
