Hearing beeps

Hi all, this is my first time to the NAS community. I have a child who has high-functioning autism. My child told me today that they hear beeps in their head when there is silence - repetitive pattern of noise that disappears when talking or being talked to. They know these are not real sounds, and only in their head, and they weren't too alarmed as it's apparentely been that way for a long time. I'm not sure what to make of this - I'm guessing it's some form of stimming. Has anyone else had an experience like this? I'd really appreciate hearing from anyone who has. Many thanks!

  • Defo get his ears checked, but as someone who has constant "earworms", synesthesia, and more than a few OCD traits, I would advise getting your son into some type of music or drumming. He may have a natural talent or sense of rhythm, and if these traits are channeled it does not have to be a problem. My earworms can be triggered by seeing certain words that I associate with songs, or recently when I went in an MRI scanner the banging noises set off my own funky electro tunes. The most frustrating thing is when I "hear" amazing music in my head but am unable to translate it, because I never learned that language as a child.
