Hi

Hi Electra,
We're sorry you feel like this but thank you for letting us know your feedback. We want this to be a safe and comfortable place for adults on the spectrum to share their experiences and get advice. We are keen to know more about how we could better achieve this and are sure that if we lose voices like you it will be more difficult.
You mention that an adult section would be preferable for share adult autism experiences. What's your experience of using the 'Living on the spectrum' for discussion like these?
Often the parents on here are on a journey too and are looking advice so they can better address the needs of their child/children. They make mistakes but they want connect with others in the same situation and improve. Your input on your experience is valuable to them.
Hope you'll give us another chance...

Firstly thank you to everyone for your kind and supportive comments.
I've decided to take a break from being here.
I feel that this is primarily a place for parents and carers to ask for help or vent their frustrations. As an autistic adult trying to hold on to a positive self image that is hard to be around. Everyday there are three or four more people talking about their troubles and problems with a child just like I used to be. Frequently i find their attitudes and approach so out of tune with what i would have found helpful as a child that there's no way I could say anything without giving offence. I think of the poor child and want to weep.
I don't think the NAS do anything like as much as they could to support and develop autistic adults. Where is the peer mentoring programme, where is a realistic programme to get autistic adults into work, where is the programme to promote awareness?
There isn't even a board here just for autistic people so we can go straight there to chat and not have to wade through students wanting to use us as research fodder or bewildered parents wanting to vent. We can't be used as a support resource for non-autistic people if we get no support ourselves.
I'm sure I'll be back at some point.
Best wishes.
Hi Electra,
Sorry to hear you are considering leaving us. May we ask what the reason is? If you don't want to answer that's ok. We are just keen to see how it can be more useful to you and others in your situation.
As Majorie195 points out you could always take a break and join us again later!
Hope you stay!
Take care,
Avi
Hi Electra, I agree with socks. I have appreciated your help. No one solution works for everyone and a variety of ideas helps people to think round a problem from different angles and perspectives.
If you are not happy on the forum just now, why not just leave your account as it is and then, it will be available if you need it in the future.
Best wishes.
1) community.manager@nas.org.uk is the email for the community manager. They will sort out this sort of thing.
2) Please don't go! This community is massively useful and I have learnt a huge amount over the time that I have been using it. It is better if there are more active users with different points of view and different experiences. I hope we haven't offended you?
There are times when I look at the constant flow of problems and it could have a negative impact on you from just reading the content. You have to remember that people mainly come here with a problem and that the ASD folk who aren't struggling are just getting on with their lives and not visitng the forum.
