Social Groups in Northamptonshire

Hi All

I am new to this so please be easy on me !!!!!!

I have been trying to find some groups in Northamptonshire where people with Aspergers do meet ???????

I have been diagnosed with Aspergers for may years and only found this website a couple of days ago

Any ideas welcomed !!!!!

  • greeting all , well i do need help and i dont quite no what to do , my 24 year old son lives with me now after being with his grandparents for the last 10 years , it has taken me 22 years to get aaron(my son) diagnosed as every one kept telling me "oh he is a big lad and he will grow out of it " but my  son never did he just grew into it, but what dose hurt me the most is i was right when i noticed he was diffarent at 6 weeks old now the doctor said sll we can now do for him is make his life as bearable as possible , so you can imagine i am kind of aaahhh where to go and what to do . he is 6'7  and 21 stone and so vulnaarble ,badley bullied  and alone , he now sais he would like to have a friend and i would like to now where i can send him to meet others with "higher functioning autism" he is the nicest ,kindest and most quite guy ever so if anyone can give me some advice i would be most gratefull , sorry for going on a bit but well it gets lonley for me too .

    Thanks for your post I have had a look at your post in the other section and would like to give my opinion on challenge that you face at the moment  I'm not an expert but would like to help you if I can .

    As posted before I do have aspergus and one of the biggest problems that Ihave found to have is getting people to have an understanding of what the condition is and how it affect s a person. 

    From your post before it seems like your partner doesn't have too good understanding at the moment .

    The best people I have found to help give that support and advice are at the diamond centre in irthlingborough northants  ..... as I know in previous posts you have said you are in east northants 

    This is my view and I do hope that this will help point you in the right direction to making your family happy .

    I know it must be an worrying time athe the moment but I am sure that you will be fine

  • Thanks for your reply.  He was diagnosed about 6 months ago.  If you go into general chat, my problems are under the heading "my AS son and the relationship with my new partner".  Any advice you could offer would be very helpful.

  • I've just joined this forum.  I live in Northamptonshire and have a son with Aspergers.  Did you find anywhere?  I am keen to attend a support group (I'm in East Northants) but don't know where to start.

    I have searched 'Northampshire' on our Autism Services Directory and it came up with four possible social and support groups around the area:
