Good life sorted

Anyone else heard of or tried this company.

Retired people sign up to be self employed helpers offering companionship, help with chores, trips out, light cleaning, medication reminders. But no personal care.

My ASD social worker suggested I sign up to get some social contact.

The umbrella company then match you with a helper.

I clearly stated I was autistic and wanted companionship to play board games and maybe some painting. I stated I  was not looking for someone chatty, more someone peaceful who liked to concentrate and maybe enjoy the background music.

They match me with a social butterfly, who has never painted but loves chatting, and she cost £27 per hour.

Worse than dating sites........Total mismatched.

I am not impressed.

  • And of course, as they're in it for profit, they're not going to be too fussy about an actual person's needs!

  • Yes, the trouble is the hype makes it very tempting and inviting for people who need this kind of service, but who knows what kind of people are offering their services who are not actually qualified to perform this role? For all you know, you could get someone who just fancies themselves as a carer because they can't find other employment, so it sounds pretty dubious to me unless you're lucky enough to get someone you really click with. From what you say it doesn't sound like this company screen their people very well and ends up being a lottery about who you get.

I have a feeling that the business model of this company is to provide support for elderly people who want to stay at home and keep their independence and not specifically autistic people, although they can still be of value. Frankly, , you might be better off trying to look for a local autistic support group that gives support to the elderly and could provide home visits rather than dishing out £27/hour for something that isn't really what you need. I would provide links, but we're not allowed to do that.

  • Too much one-size-fits-all, in this country. Plenty of Jobsworths, who know how to charge.
