Is AI getting out of hand?
I feel like it is; I'm getting to the point where it will end up being normal. To tell you the truth, I don't want that.

The Orange One has signed an executive order saying that AI is now to be known as SI or super intelligence and that al government depts must now use SI and not AI.
He's also signed a morally binding deal with the bosses of these companies, whatever a morally binding deal is?
How criminals might use the boom in ai is terrifying.
Indeed
How criminals might use the boom in ai is terrifying
A more recent development is where the scammers obtain voice recordings of you, get your contacts and it will call your contacts pretending to be you in distress and in need of money to get out of the trouble you are in:
https://edition.cnn.com/2026/05/29/tech/ai-voice-cloning-scams-protect-yourself
Any way that scammers can imagine of to con you into sending them money will be exploited in due course - this is the nature of their "business model" and they have a lot of money behind them from previous scams.
It is fascinating but also depressing.
Scary and sad for all those authors. How criminals might use the boom in ai is terrifying.
Scammers are using AI to target self publishers:

Theres protests about data centres being built, maybe it wouldn't be so bad if all the heat and hot water could be used to heat homes and business.
I saw there are newer pylons being introduced that are supposed to be less invasive to look at. I feel very mixed about it all, one the ones hand I don't want more of our green spaces ruined, but I also know that the countryside has always been a working landscape and what we've had since the industrial revolution is quite different to the way the land was used previously.
I know a lot of people hate them, but I actually life watching wind turbines, I find them restful and a bit hypnotic.
There is a quiet industrialisation of the countryside happening that people might not be aware of. It's a combination of the green energy infrastructure -which is good but you have to make sure you are looking at all the demands on the green spaces for balance, as it's also building power substation, fields of batteries, these new data centres which have to be connected up with power and water (ai craze is really driving demand to build these). Post-apocalyptic pylon towers, marching across the the beauty spots (this is happening here), so people wont notice until they try go on holiday and discover there is no countryside left that is unspoilt. Tree plantations already pushed out a lot of sheep farming here too (I know someone this happened to), and now there are more and more being turned over to wind turbines. Food production doesn't seem to be a priority at all, when big corps offer more money to the landowner of a field to house their mega tech centers, and it's important to remember all these other pressures, so the farming land isn't just sold off piece by piece with no overall plan for food and other living creatures trying to survive on this scrap of land.
There is very little research being done on the effect of all these things in combination, like a magic trick, people are distracted one way, and not notice what is happening behind them.
I like watching youtube, but i’m sick of AI slop. Particularly the AI voice over slop. I immediately switch off. Also, whenever the video starts with “picture this” you can tell it’s written by AI. Another giveaway is when describing something, it’s usually in threes. For example. “Picture this, you’re walking down a high street, theres something that catches your eye high up on one of the buildings, its not a pigeon, its not some elaborate decoration, its not even the building itself…its something so incredible you have to have look not once, not twice, but three times” it just fleshes out the script with needless filler words. It does my head in.
I wonder if people knew about the environmental cost
I think that's obvious, but most people don't see what's obvious to me.
it's not just water, its plastics to build hardware and energy use. I think the rising cost of domestic energy might be partly to encourage us to use less, so the massive server farms can have more?
Is AI getting out of hand?
Have humans got out of hand, as in impossible or difficult to control? Many have, and as AI learns from humans it's a predictable outcome.
Yes.
I don't trust AI or the tech bros.
I wonder if people knew about the environmental cost of AI…..the amount of water used to cool the servers, whether they might think twice about how much they use it. I know I didn’t realise until my son told me.
Maybe having to pay something to use AI would make people more conscious of their usage and help limit unnecessary use.
The first known AI hack of a government system has been reported:
AI is handy for me but yes its getting a bit to onvolved now
Is AI getting out of hand?
Yes.

Think who owns all the big AI players - are these corporations that want you to follow the thinking they are pushing, the agendas of their billionaire owners - are they going to benefit from you believing what they tell you and recommend for you?
The reason I open with this is that they are already sucking in so many people to use the AI for free and it saves them time from doing work, from having to do their own research and to be able to think critically. This sort of compliant and gullible user base seems to be the objective.
When you see how many more data centers are planned and how much resource is being ploughed into creating AI capacity then it is clearly going to grow hugely in the coming years so what will it be used for?
You can already see the volume of erroneous results from AI and a disturbingly large number of deliberate misinformation elements appearing (especially from Grok) that it seems clear there is an intention to curate and guide the knowledge made available to people as time goes on.
While it is attractive to use then I think the adoption will continue but without people realising that its ongoing use erodes their ability to think critically then I fear they will become dependant on it - in fact I see some people on this site falling into the seductive trap if using it rather than developing their own skills to overcome their lack of knowledge.
If the last 2 decades have taught us anything it is that people are on the whole sheep who like having echo chambers and their research done for them when it supports their opinions, so the reality I see if that it will become normal use (especially as the non-tech users die out) and we will lose yet more ability as a culture to think for ourselves.
I spent too long working as an AI engineer to trust it I'm afraid.
