There are times when I'm such a numpty

It was years before I worked out that actors wear wigs!, I'd see them in something and then see them on something like the One show and wonder how they'd manages to grow their hair so much and stuff like that.

Theres been so many things like that over the years, mispronunciations, not knowing what some cultural things are, I sort of have to wonder at my own niavity. WHat made it all worse was that some "friends" would either laugh at me or wouldn't tell me I'd made a boo boo so they could laugh behind my back.

Do you ever miss the obvious?

  • You’re definitely not alone, for years I would hear the term ‘serial killer,” my dyslexic brain always assumed it was a “cereal killer,” I had visions of The Honey Monster. 
    I can talk to someone and the next day not recognise them, this is normally if they have put a hat on or had their hair cut, it’s led to a few embarrassing encounters with trades people.

    Song lyrics are a nightmare, my favourite is a Bee Gees song, “and you come to me on a summer breeze,” I always thought is was, “ and you come to me on a submarine.”

    You mentioned accents, I have to be very careful not to go what could be seen as too far. If I spend a period of time with someone, I can easily morph into them, mimicking has always been easy. I’ve normally studied them, accent, mannerisms and even how they walk. I suppose it’s an autistic thing to observe and copy, maybe not get noticed and they will think I’m one of them.

    I had a high school band director who made a remark (that I now know was meant to be derogatory) that my brain is a sponge.
