There are times when I'm such a numpty

It was years before I worked out that actors wear wigs!, I'd see them in something and then see them on something like the One show and wonder how they'd manages to grow their hair so much and stuff like that.

Theres been so many things like that over the years, mispronunciations, not knowing what some cultural things are, I sort of have to wonder at my own niavity. WHat made it all worse was that some "friends" would either laugh at me or wouldn't tell me I'd made a boo boo so they could laugh behind my back.

Do you ever miss the obvious?

  • 1. I just KNEW when I saw the word “numpty” in the title that this is a TheCatWoman thread LOL

    2. When I was in high school I was IMMENSELY naïve. I really don’t want to give details, but let’s just say a handful of people recognized that it was very easy to dupe me, even on things that should be obvious. Reason being, I deep down believed that people will not lie unless they have a good reason to. Boy was I wrong.

    3. Since then, I have learned to be suspicious of everything. Anything I read online I double check it. When people tell me something in person and there is even an inkling that they might have an ulterior motive, I am cautious. Lol I’m so careful that I even look up quick notes on recent movies and shows so that I don’t get taken by surprise when someone references pop culture. I haven’t felt quite so naïve or duped in years because I am so cautious.

    4. That doesn’t mean I don’t make dumb mistakes. That still happens a lot. Thankfully, I surround myself with people who just laugh off my weirdness and we move on. Thus, I can’t even remember recent examples of that.

    5. I mentioned on another recent thread that I have a trauma response to lying. One reason is my mother and another reason is point 2 above. When I KNOW someone lied to me (unless they had a good reason to), that’s an automatic unforgivable sin for me lol. It’s not worth suffering the rising blood pressure, shakes, and feelings of dread again just to save face.

    I was humoured, a lot, as a boy. But I learned to develop a thicker skin.
