Hate and unconstitutional thinking taking over

I know, nobody wants to talk about politics and that‘s not what I‘m here to do.
There was a pretty defining vote in one of the Bundesländer of Germany and the results are… Well, today I am ashamed to be German.

I do not get why people vote for a party that is officially deemed "right-wing extremist“ and wants to destroy the pillars of democracy for personal profits and ideologies.
Sorry to dampen the mood, but as someone that needs the world to stay open minded, I worry. I cried this morning and I fear for the future. My sense of justice screams for me to get away while I am to start my six years of university soon. The future seems to be a Germany where I do not want to live and right now I honestly do not know what to do.

How do you deal with the world getting more hateful and narrow-minded? What helps you to see things in perspective (preferably a perspective that doesn‘t make me weep)?

  • I think you've got to ask why we are seeing the rise of these what are terned "extreme right-wing" parties in Europe nowadays.Usually, there are pre-existing conditions that provide the breeding grounds such parties to develop and in this case, I think it's because the political balance between the right and left has become distorted over recent years and many people who are note particularly woke -minded or have socialist attitudes feel they no longer have a voice through the existing political party system, so turn to those who appear to offer a fresh approach. We've seen this in the UK with the rise of the Reform party since the traditional two-party system that has been going since the first world war has essentially broken down and focused mainly on the trying to please everyone, while displeasing many.

  • I think most people who are anti "woke" are complaining because they have to take some responsibility for the language they use and are being asked to question lazy stereo types. Yes, there are a lot of things you can't call "them" anymore, whichever "them" you're lazily insulting, likewise assuming sexual assault victims "are asking for it", or "young people have no discipline anymore". Let alone that people can't call the disabled horrible names anymore, can't discriminate against people like us.

    Bring on the Woke!

    Lets have more Woke!

  • the loony left that has created a kind of “mania,” interpreting even the most harmless remark as a threat against some minority or another.

There are many who bully and bullying is always awful. On the whole, though, the far left don't tend to threaten violence or turn up outside someone's door. I had a lot of experience as a seniorish trade union rep in handling the endless calls for purity by those on the far left and I'd still rather have that than masked men in black marching the streets to give the physical presence to back up the violent online threats of the far right.

  • Thank you for making me smile

    Brilliant reply.

  • Let me see (checks mirror)

White check mark socially aware and reasonable (woke)

White check mark️ belief in equality and sharing (left)

White check mark  inured to being othered️ ('loony') man shrugging

White check mark️ voice for self and other out-groups

Oh good. I'm ready for my day.

  • Th people who I find want to censor speech aren't the politicians, or the "loony left", a term I find offensive in itself, but the sort of people who decide things , like what we can or can't say on sites like this, those people must have really filthy minds if they think conversations on ornithology etc are going to cause offence, because of certan bird names and types. This is protectionism gone way to far, who are they really protecting and from what?

Of course there will always be some people who are a sense of offence looking for somewhere to manifest, as well as those who if one minority member stubs thier toe in New York, another in London will start hoping in sympathy. Many on the left are just as annoyed by these types as those in the right, as its attention seeking and distracts from the real problems minorities face.

Who is actually telling people what they can and can't say? Really? My Mum gets the daily depress and it seems it does far more to wind people up about what they allegedly can and can't say, usually on either a slow news day or when the Labour governments done something popular and positive.

  • True, but at the same time, people feel their freedom of speech has been curtailed too much, to the point where we no longer live in a free country that has traditionally valued freedom of expression. That’s not to say, of course, that freedom of speech gives anyone the right to use hate speech, but it’s the vigilance of those on the loony left that has created a kind of “mania,” interpreting even the most harmless remark as a threat against some minority or another.

  • Here, here!! We need much more woke.
