Hate and unconstitutional thinking taking over

I know, nobody wants to talk about politics and that‘s not what I‘m here to do. 
There was a pretty defining vote in one of the Bundesländer of Germany and the results are… Well, today I am ashamed to be German.

I do not get why people vote for a party that is officially deemed "right-wing extremist“ and wants to destroy the pillars of democracy for personal profits and ideologies. 
Sorry to dampen the mood, but as someone that needs the world to stay open minded, I worry. I cried this morning and I fear for the future. My sense of justice screams for me to get away while I am to start my six years of university soon. The future seems to be a Germany where I do not want to live and right now I honestly do not know what to do.

How do you deal with the world getting more hateful and narrow-minded? What helps you to see things in perspective (preferably a perspective that doesn‘t make me weep)?

  • I think you've got to ask why we are seeing the rise of these what are terned "extreme right-wing" parties in Europe nowadays.Usually, there are pre-existing conditions that provide the breeding grounds such parties to develop and in this case, I think it's because the political balance between the right and left has become distorted over recent years and many people who are note particularly woke -minded or have socialist attitudes feel they no longer have a voice through the existing political party system, so turn to those who appear to offer a fresh approach. We've seen this in the UK with the rise of the Reform party since the traditional two-party system that has been going since the first world war has essentially broken down and focused mainly on the trying to please everyone, while displeasing many.

    I think you are right. I was listening to a German political commentator on a podcast yesterday. He was saying there is a type of nostalgia for communism among many young people, especially in Saxony. He went on to say young people are aware of the history of Russia and Europe, but there are thoughts that compared to things now, with the breakdown of society, ‘non-white’ people populating ‘traditionally white areas’ and systems not working, a communist society would be better than what they have now.

    I think most people who are anti "woke" are complaining because they have to take some responsibility for the language they use and are being asked to question lazy stereo types. Yes, there are a lot of things you can't call "them" anymore, whichever "them" you're lazily insulting, likewise assuming sexual assault victims "are asking for it", or "young people have no discipline anymore". Let alone that people can't call the disabled horrible names anymore, can't discriminate against people like us.

    It’s Trump. Trump is the answer to your question. His 2nd term has been a case study in how to manipulate millions of people in modern times. European leaders are taking his example by utilizing scapegoats (refugees and immigrants) and promising that extreme changes/beliefs will fix all the immense economic and cultural struggles of our time.

    If you want to be powerful today, take Trump’s example.
