They would often put old films on tv in school holidays, Laurel & Hardy was always fun. The King and I was another good watch, that would normally be on at Christmas. Harold Lloyd was on BBC2 most evenings. Sunday afternoons would often have films on like Carousel or My Fair Lady. TV and films was my childhood. The Wizard of Oz was a favourite, little bit of trivia, the wizard Frank Morgan played 5 different characters in the film. I bet he didn’t get paid 5 times!

The funny thing is, most of these movies would have been shown on tv over the years, but, don't recall seeing Half a Sixpence much on the past.
I'm sure it's been aired but for many years I watched tv films (not so much now) and it's not one thar stands out to me.
I loved watching Danny Kaye films, another was Tommy Steele films, especially Half a Sixpence. My mother was a cinema usherette so I had unlimited access. I think that’s where I got me love of films from. The hours spent in the cinema also may have fed my interest.
Sitting in the dark and disappearing into a film is still my greatest joy.

Yep, I remember seeing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea at the cinema with my parents and I thought it was fantastic. The Disney films were great too and The Time Machine was great also. I also remember seeing "The Five Pennies" with Danny Kay with my dad and really enjoyed that one too.

I was going to write that I didn't really have a favourite film as a child but one that I remember affected me very deeply was "The Neverending Story". Then I clicked on the discussion and saw the link you had put in the original post!
The film Chitty was written by Ian Fleming, the Emperor in Chitty had already acted in another Ian Fleming film, he played the part of Auric Goldfinger.
When I was at school the County Council employed a truancy officer, he kept the same car for years, all the children knew it was his car and hid when they saw it coming , he was known as the kiddie catcher.
I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was young and I was afraid of the child catcher. I then saw it when I was a bit older for a friend's birthday and it was ok. I also saw the Jungle Book which was the first film I went to. Going to the cinema was an occasional treat and I don't recall seeing any other films there, although I guess I did. I don't remember watching many on TV except Sound of Music. We only got TV just before I went to Junior School and at first could only tune in to BBC1 and ITV. TV only tended to get put on around 4 pm even at weekends except when the boat race was on.
I find it difficult to pick one film. From about age 11 it most certainly would have been the Harry Potter films. Before that there are two that stand out to me - both Robin Williams. They are Jack and Hook.
There was a period that I used to watch "sleeping beauty" everyday or even two times in a row. My mom laughed, that I watched it until the tape wore off. It was VHS. I needed more time to understand the plot and then when I finally understood, I needed more time to enjoy it.
