The only movie I was taken to see at the cinema as a child was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and I didn't like that much. We didn't have video players when I was a child and only 3 channels on the TV, but I remember watching National Velvet on my Gran's black & white TV and getting a bit emotional.
I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was young and I was afraid of the child catcher. I then saw it when I was a bit older for a friend's birthday and it was ok. I also saw the Jungle Book which was the first film I went to. Going to the cinema was an occasional treat and I don't recall seeing any other films there, although I guess I did. I don't remember watching many on TV except Sound of Music. We only got TV just before I went to Junior School and at first could only tune in to BBC1 and ITV. TV only tended to get put on around 4 pm even at weekends except when the boat race was on.

The film Chitty was written by Ian Fleming, the Emperor in Chitty had already acted in another Ian Fleming film, he played the part of Auric Goldfinger.
When I was at school the County Council employed a truancy officer, he kept the same car for years, all the children knew it was his car and hid when they saw it coming , he was known as the kiddie catcher.
