What was your favourite movie when you were a child?

Parents
  • The only movie I was taken to see at the cinema as a child was Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, and I didn't like that much. We didn't have video players when I was a child and only 3 channels on the TV,  but I remember watching National Velvet on my Gran's black & white TV and getting a bit emotional.

  • I saw Chitty Chitty Bang Bang when I was young and I was afraid of the child catcher. I then saw it when I was a bit older for a friend's birthday and it was ok. I also saw the Jungle Book which was the first film I went to. Going to the cinema was an occasional treat and I don't recall seeing any other films there, although I guess I did. I don't remember watching many on TV except Sound of Music. We only got TV just before I went to Junior School and at first could only tune in to BBC1 and ITV. TV only tended to get put on around 4 pm even at weekends except when the boat race was on.

  • The film Chitty was written by Ian Fleming, the Emperor in Chitty had already acted in another Ian Fleming film, he played the part of  Auric Goldfinger.

When I was at school the County Council employed a truancy officer, he kept the same car for years, all the children knew it was his car and hid when they saw it coming , he was known as the kiddie catcher.
