I love labyrinth the music and puppets. I only learned recently much more out Jim Hensen that he felt largely insecure about work and felt misunderstood because hist films like dark crystal and labyrinth were unpopular considered flops at first
Thats true, becuase Gobots was first, Hasbro saw the potential in it and bought all the rights, and rebranded and released it as transformers. Transformers is better, but still have a soft spot for gobots lol
Jules Verne is a fantastic writer I can read 20,000 leagues or journey to the center of the earth or around the world in 80 days and be transported back. In time
Oh no I mean the first 4 in release order as I first saw the trilogy in 1997 in the cinemas when they did the remasters the 2 years later out comes episode one by which time a new cinema opened so went there and all 4 became favorite ones
Gremlins 2, I didn’t even see the first one for years after. I had it taped off the TV & would watch it, rewind it, then start it over again. I had all the adverts memorized.
I managed to get it on DVD a few months back too which was very exciting!
As a child I loved challenge of the Gobots movie (Pre transformers animated). I rented it out a lot from the local video store back then. My wife bought me a multi region dvd/blu ray player due to my love of cartoons as some of them only released in the US so I was able to track it down and get a dvd copy recently
I was obsessed with Home Alone as a kid and would watch it on repeat day after day. In hindsight an autistic diagnosis was not that much of a surprise.
Similar age, TV's didn't have remote controls when I was a child either, you had to get up and switch it over. I remember both films vividly especially National Velvet which got me into horse riding for the next 15 years.
A beautiful film with a strong narrative! One of the few book adaptations that managed to stir just as much emotion in me as the book. Michael Ende‘s stories are just incredible. The new Momo adaptation is also pretty good.
‘De Wonnerstär’ - you probably won’t know it- it is a Luxembourgish children’s Christmas movie inspired by the ‘ugly duckling’. Omar is shunned by his duck siblings and parents as he is different (he finds out later that he is actually a swan) and ultimately befriends a girl who has run away from home due to her parents arguing. Thinking back it is quite telling haha as I was undiagnosed autistic and felt quite different to others my age and didn’t fit in either. I really wish I could rewatch it but I don’t think it is available online.
The original Planet of the Apes films were fascinating, LWT showed a series version, the gorillas were quite scary. My wife still loves to watch Calamity Jane, the songs in that are brilliant.
The Omega Man was really thought provoking, I am Legend was a remake of it , they remind me of The Time Machine as people mutated.
