I caught three "fairies" today, twice

That reminds me of the film, Genie (with Melissa McCarthy as the genie), that I half watched recently.

She was willing to grant unlimited wishes. I can't tell you how it ended, because I'm afraid I gave up on it. But it's by Richard Curtis, so probably happily ever after!

I wondered if it was because when I caught the first three fairies, I imediately thought, 'three more wishes', and then thought that was selfish and asked for things for other people, so I got my first wish granted.

Thank you for sharing this! I had completely forgotten about catching "fairies". It was one of the highlights of school playtime.

Thank you Bunny, or coming to my defence, I upvoted your post to cancel out the down vote it had recieved. I didn't know you could upvote your own posts, seems a pretty pointless thing to do, why would anyone want too big themselves up in such a way? 

Well done for being brave. New technical things concern me, especially having just replaced my old phone from necessity and having to update things as well as getting into a muddle with updating something else because they changed provider and going around in circles. Although I didn't have anything to add I have enjoyed reading this (mostly) cheerful thread.

You’ve done it again, Iain. Your reply received a downvote, so you responded by upvoting it yourself - in this case returning the visible net result to zero. As if no one had downvoted it in the first place.

(For anyone who isn't aware, clicking or tapping on the figure in between the up and down arrows will list anyone who's voted on any given reply).

You also recently upvoted your own reply in KittyMetal's thread - cancelling out, in terms of the effect on the net voting figure, one of the downvotes it had received from others.

Generally speaking, I think we can all safely assume that you approve of your own posts, without you voting them up. Just as we can in respect of our own posts. 

In my view, upvoting your own replies to offset others' negative reactions is misleading and disrespectful - especially as voting is perhaps the least confrontational way that we have, here, of expressing things like disagreement, concern, or disapproval.

In respect of your reply above, I’d intended to let my downvote be enough to signal my concern. Since you’ve chosen to cancel its effect on the visible score, I’ll explain my thoughts more visibly instead:

Your “joke” was an ableist attempt at humour, made at TheCatWoman’s expense. You already know that technology is a sensitive subject area for her. She’s previously explained her difficulties with it to you in detail, and told you clearly about the adverse impact of some of your replies to her on the subject.

This is a lovely, whimsical thread. Everyone else replied in keeping with that. It certainly brought back fond memories, for me, of chasing fairies in the garden (although I never really knew what to wish for, in the moment).

But you chose to raise her difficulties yet again, by making them the subject of a “joke”. That’s why I downvoted it. If you hadn’t then responded by upvoting your own reply, I’d have left the matter there.

I use co-pilot as a search engine now, its much more helpful.

like your success with your computers search results - the system probably couldn't find the wishes you were asking for so it asked you to retry...

I’ve always called them fairies and made a wish if I caught them ️

Oh that's lovely, I'm going to tell my daughter about that! (Or maybe my niece and nephew as my kids just roll their eyes at me these days!)
