Coping with weekly shopping trip - older people

Having coped quite well at home with the heat, I'm starting to find it exhausting doing the weekly shop. I try to arrange things so I don't visit more than 5 shops. I always take a hat and cold drink and sometimes a sandwich.

How do you cope with shopping, in this heat?

  • I don't cope with shopping very well and not having a car we have used online shopping for well over 20 years. My partner is the happy shopper and tops up things we forget to order, etc. I used to really enjoy garden centre/plant nursery shopping and sometimes charity shops.

  • We don't have much in the way of garden centres anymore sadly, I love a garden centrre and always seek out the "rescue plants", I've had some really good bargains, often perenials that are at the end of their season, but will come back next year. I bought a sad looking patio rose for a pound, gave it a good soak and repotted it, now it tripled in size and produces lovely red flowers over a long season, what a bargain!.

Many of our charity shops have closed down now, I used to love going round the charity shops, but now the ones that are left all seem to be rubbish, the clothes are horrible, they have hardly any books, apparently people don't read books anymore. A couple of our supermarkets have book tables and the turnover is huge, I took a bag of books there on a range of subjects and they'd all gone within three days. So many charity shops send donations to other places, they decide what people want and its always rubbish here and often expensive rubbish too and they've taken to selling loads of new items too, half of one of the big shops is now new stuff, apart from socks it all sits there for months as nobody wants it.
