Alarm clocks with dim letters

Hi. My old plug in alarm clock has finally had it. The light was dim enough to not light up the room. I tried a new one with a green light and it was so bright I couldn't sleep. I have looked at descriptions of a few and they all say you can see the time on the opposite side of the room, so no need to squint. I just need one with enough light to see it when it is nearby at night.  Has anyone found one that is not too bright or a dimmer setting?

I had that issue before and I used a really cheap solution.

I found some darkish red cellophane (clear plastic sheet from some packaging) and stuck this to the front of the display and it made the numbers appear a dark mustard colour and reduced the brightness a lot in the process.

It saves money and means less electronic waste.
