Alarm clocks with dim letters

Hi. My old plug in alarm clock has finally had it. The light was dim enough to not light up the room. I tried a new one with a green light and it was so bright I couldn't sleep. I have looked at descriptions of a few and they all say you can see the time on the opposite side of the room, so no need to squint. I just need one with enough light to see it when it is nearby at night.  Has anyone found one that is not too bright or a dimmer setting?

  • Red light is the longest wave length so would have less effect than something like green which would be quite bright (blue being the worst for this). Mine I've had since 2002 and has red light and is the other side of the room. (Though this means I struggle to read it at night without my glasses). I know what you mean, as sometimes they make charging lights blue or green which is too bright and the offending item has to get hidden away so it doesn't keep me up.

    My red one is probably about that old. I wonder why they stopped using that colour, especially as they talk about not looking at screens before bed. I can hide dim light, so it is just the sort that lights up the room that I can't use. As it is said that there are now so many more of us perhaps that is an opportunity for someone to start making clocks with red figures for those who don't want a light room.

    I searched alarm clock and you are right, they all seem to be bright light which would be simply awful!
    I did search for red light alarm clock then and got a few hits, there was a cheap Bush one in argos for around £8, it is a radio too which might not be wanted, but the display would be more what I would want too.
