Not looking forward to extreme heat

It is just about reaching as hot as I can bear, towards the upper 20s. If we get extreme heat for a few days I get through it by thinking that it will be over soon. At the moment next week is predicted to be around 30 all week and often the prediction gets higher as it gets closer.

I like to be outside at least some of each day, but I am not sure there will be much that is bearable.

I am hoping they have got it wrong and it reduces sooner than Monday week.

Parents
  • In Fort William (max temp today 21C) this evening and off to Mallaig tomorrow (max temp forecast 16C). Hope it's cooling down a bit where you all are too.

  • Are you doing the steam train over the Glenfinnan viaduct? Mallaig is lovely if it's not too windy! Fort William feels like it's made up of industry and guest houses!

  • We watched the train go over it but even better was time spent on the beach at Morar. Got to Mallaig and waved at the islands (next time!). Fort William is a useful base but not a destination...

  • Hi Alice

I’m really sorry that you feel  used cruel words in her post and you have been affected. I hope you are OK and can get support.

I don’t think it’s nice to be derogatory or dismissive of any location as it could be hurtful to those who are connected to the place, but I don’t think CatWoman used cruel words or was derogatory about Llandudno. I understood her remarks to be a comment about the style of architecture harking back to an earlier era. It’s an interesting and important historical fact worthy of note for those who are interested in architecture and history.

    Sending you Bouquet

  • Alice I'm really sorry you read what I said in such a negative way, it was not my intention to cause you distress, I was just expressing a view on architecture.

  • Hello Alice,

I'm so sorry that you are struggling with your feelings at the moment.

Your Mum sounds like she was a lovely lady and I'm glad that you have good memories of your time with her.

    Sending you my best wishes.

  • I meant, support by giving information. Sorry, I didn't make that clear! I don't like it when people argue.

  • Mods - can you offer support to this lady
I've flagged your message to the Moderator because it seems you need emotional support.

As volunteer moderators I am not sure that their role includes this?

  • I'm so sorry you feel bad, @Alice-nice-Alice. I've flagged your message to the Moderator because it seems you need emotional support. I didn't read  's message in that way - she's a historian and was stating a historical truism. I'm sure she would not have meant to hurt you. Mods - can you offer support to this lady

  • I was upset to read your reply by its criticism of Llandudno. It was a happy place for my mum and I, and before that she and her sisters and their relatives went there for many happy holidays. None of us were or are wealthy, mum was a dinner lady, my dad a factory worker in Leicester and soldier in WW2. My aunts likewise were ordinary people, many from the midlands country villages being bakers, butchers and labourers, and all took holidays there.

Please be more kind in your replies, think about your words and the potential they have for harm. It probably wasn’t your intention but you have ruined my day, triggered me back over an edge into sadness and possibly depression. I love Llandudno, we went there to commemorate what would have been mum’s 100th birthday, took the train, enjoyed the views, the Great Orme, beaches and architecture. it was a beautiful happy day, but your cruel words about our special place has brought me to tears.

Im struggling to combat suicidal thoughts as the moderators have noticed and you have pushed me backwards with your criticism.

Mum was a simple country lady who believed in simple kindness, always thought before she spoke, and was the most loved mum anyone could have. Sometimes my memories of our good times are all that keep me going and you have disrespected them.

Anyway Im switching off notifications from this thread, I don’t wish to hear more of your negativity on so many subjects.

    Good bye

    Alice

  • Fort William reminds me of places like Torquay and Llandudno, places for wealthy city folk to play in Vicotrian times. The architecture's similar and theres a similar feel to them too.
