A long way for a hair cut

I saw this article about families travelling long distances to get their kids hair cut at a sensory friendly hair-saloon.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were more good autism-friendly hairdressers. Maybe I could get mine cut then!

  • I wish this was a more common thing but it also needs to be regulated some how. I tried someone last year that advertised themselves as sensory, anxiety and autism friendly and she was absolutely clueless. She would chew gum, wear strong perfumes and talked non stop. It was the worst hair cutting experience I've ever had. I was so disappointed as she advertised she'd been on lots of courses etc so I'd have expected more understanding. I've found a little salon now which is quiet and that is suiting me much better.

I see you managed to get yours cut. Well done.

Oh no - writing this reply has made me realise - I had an appointment this morning and I forgot to go!

Oh no! I need my phone calender for everything or else it gets forgotten too! Though this place did send me a message to remind me a few days ago.

  • I'd thought about it all week. I don't know how I forgot. It had completely gone from my mind until I was replying to you. That is the only downside of this place - they are very much still paper and pencil so no reminders or anything.

I'm so annoyed with myself. They aren't open again until Tuesday. I've left a voicemail to apologise. I hate situations like this.

  • Yep. I hate unresolved. It's such an annoying mistake. I know they probably won't be that bothered and understand humans make mistakes but I struggle not to beat myself up in situations like this.
