I just found out my cart's battery died last night, I'm feeling really sad now. I always knew the day would come, I just wasn't expecting it to hit me so hard

Sorry to hear about that. That’s a huge gut punch in the childhood feels.
Somewhat similar, I had a grieving period when I lost track of my brother’s Ocarina of Time after he passed. I had two other copies (somehow?) but neither were his with his save file. I had to grapple with the fact that I pinned too much emotion on that game because we would play it a lot together.
I think what helped with getting over that was recognizing that I can relive the memories any time by booting up a new save file. But that took time and facing my fear of grieving over something so small as an N64 cart.
All that to say, it’s okay to mourn something like that. It was important to you, so it deserves a bit of mourning.
