Discombubulated (Experiment)

Hi All,

Homebird mentioned the weather in her recent thread. This post is to do with low pressure. Which is very (although not unseasonably) low at the moment.

I experience quite extreme feelings and moods (sometimes body pain) on days when the air pressure drops though late autumn and winter. The last week has been really hard. I know a lot of people experience migraines. I just wondered whether anyone else felt discombobulated when the weather is like this.

I’d like anyone the the uk with ASD to conduct a short experiment on themself if you are in the UK from this evening 6pm until this Thursday eve if you can please tell me how you feel as there is a big low pressure drop happening. The pressure is going to be dropping heavilly from 1000bar on Sunday evening to 975 bar (very low) on Thursday night. Some people may be seriously affected by this drop. Please record and changes during this time.

I'm interested to know if other autistic people become extra sensitive, or irritable, or tired, hungry, or depressed? All observations relevant.

Thank you

The air pressure is currently 981mbar and continuing to drop where I am.

I haven’t been well the last few days but I am recovering now, so it is difficult to assess what impact (if any) the low air pressure is having on me.

In the past, I have noticed that the weather, just before a storm, triggers asthma symptoms. Generally, poor weather can make me feel more depressed and hungrier than usual, but I don’t know whether my lower mood is related to air pressure or just the bad weather.

    An interesting discussion.

  • It’s harder to get through the time you can get hungrier. I find my hope levels dip, I can borderline panic attack without other people seeing what’s going on. Everything feels heightened. My phone tells me when it’s about to dip and tells me to put earplugs in to counter to.

  • Do you use the earplugs to reduce noise or do they do something else?

AIr pressure is currently 979mbar here. I think my low mood and energy are because of the rain and cloud cover and because I’m not fully recovered from having some days of illness last week/weekend.

  • Sucking sweets? I agree ear nose and throut, equalisation. All just as important. I'm only interested in the science, but it may be disproven in 50 years.

  • You can add a pinch of salt and sugar to water to make an electrolite drink. I have a similar problem

  • Yes, magazines used to have lots of articles extolling the benefits of water, and I continue to hear vague references to drinking lots of water without specifying the amount. I would drink just under 2 litres per day most days.

A few years ago I was in hospital and a junior doctor told me to keep drinking! I explained that my consultant had just spoken to me about my blood test results showing abnormally low sodium and that I was to make the one glass of water last until bedtime.

I have bother remembering to drink enough now as I don’t always feel thirsty. I have a Brita water filter jug in the fridge and use this to gauge how much I’m drinking. I take account of the coffee and tea drunk too.
