My pooter's being weird again

A few times recently when I've switched it on without me doing anything, it's gone straight to the internet and sometimes it's choosing the site I want to visit. Is this spooky? Or has someone slipped me a neural net whilst I wasn't looking? Does Elon Musk need to eat his heart out with envy? And as always, why me? Why does this weird stuff always happen to me?

  • Why does this weird stuff always happen to me?

It happens to all of us over time. My fairy lights switched themselves on yesterday, despite the mains being switched off. I think there are  surges of power but you don't realize until something noticeable like this happens or your freezer is full of ice crystals not there the day before.

  • Mines shut down properly and its not taking me back to the last page I looked at, I don't have an HP anything I detest HP stuff.

Iain you say it's not just me and I believe you, but I think whilst others may have one or two weirdnesses with tech, I seem to get them all, to the point now where those around me just laugh and tell me it's just me it happens too or just me it happens to so often, they put it right for me and wait for the next iime. Its the sheer amount of things that go wrong, anything from egg timers, tv's to computers. I could give you the full list if you like?

    Firefox is updated.

  • Mine always does this especially if I haven’t shut it down properly

  • I get this with an HP computer I have - it switches on when the voltage fluctuates slightly (eg lightening strike in the area) and it starts itself up. I just leave it unplugged now.

As for the web browser - it sounds like the web browser did not close properly and it tries to go back the the last web page you were on. It may be worth checking by clicking in the 3 parallel lines on the top right of the screen and seeing if there is a entry there to update Firefox (I think you said this is your browser before).

Let it update and restart the browser and it should be in a better state of health.

Why does this weird stuff always happen to me?

It isn't just you. I spent 32 yours fixing stuff and running departments who fixes stuff like this - all tech is buggy so will always need support of some kind.

Admittedly you are an earthing rod to all the tech demons out there but there are normally answers to be found.

  • I was forced to update to windows 11, and I had to go in and change settings on the motherboard to make it work as it was saying my computer couldn't run it though it could.

    Ah, the old BitLocker requirement.

There are ways to install Windows 11 and run a command when it is asking for some input that let you bypass these hardware restrictions and even the need to sign in with an online account. That is how I set up all my computers to avoid Microsofts annoying restrictions.

I have 3 laptops that do not have a "supported" processor but I could still install Windows 11 without BitLocker and the need for an email account to sign in with. Much easier to use since I don't have home broadband at the moment.

  • That would make life easier!

I was forced to update to windows 11, and I had to go in and change settings on the motherboard to make it work as it was saying my computer couldn't run it though it could.

Computers are a pain in the ****.

  • No I'mnot touching anythng, sometimes I'm not even in arms reach of it, I don't think my pooter will run edge, I think it's too old. The site it usually takes me too is here, it's like I've just got to think it and it happens! I wish I know what was going on and how to control it, then maybe I wouldn't have so many problems finding the stuff I want?

  • I think if you accidentally click on any of the stuff on the start up screen, it will try open that in your browser on start up.

Windows is very annoying and is basically trying to make you use it's Edge browser for the internet. A lot of people switch to something different though you probably don't want to know about that sort of thing!
