Does anyone want to talk about outer space?
The moon is leaving us at a distance of 1/10 of a mm every day
I read somewhere that if the moon were to come closer to Earth (it never will, it’s actually moving away from us), it wouldn’t just collide with us, it would instead rip apart and become rings around the planet. That’s what Saturn’s rings are made of: Broken moons.
Belka and Strelka were the first animals to go in space, orbit the Earth, and return home alive. After their adventure in space they lived peaceful happy lives. Every time I read about them and see their pictures it makes me smile. It’s incredible to think this was achieved in the 60s.
destroyed their whole planet.
I haven't read that one (though Sci Fi is one of the main things I read). Yes, you can see this happening in real life, it's the rich investors doing space now, so there are no morals. They would just see a planet, think there was no life there, and mine it for wealth.
Stanislav Lem wrote a novel, where the aliens looked like spongs (they were intelligent) but humans thought there was noone intelligent and destroyed their whole planet.
I like Brian Cox, however, after initially following and understanding what he’s saying, I lose focus/get bored and then he just seems to ramble on.
We have fairly dark skies in the southern uplands, but I know there are areas that are darker, like Skye and there's a Galloway national dark skies park too. I bet that must be breathtaking!
I wave at it if I see it.
I can recognise some stars and planets.
Have you ever been to somewhere with really dark skies? When I used to live on Skye, I'd see all sort of weird stuff whizzing about.
I have not watched the series but...
Logic says we are not alone in the vastness of space
...just wanted to add, will we be able to recognise other life when we see it? Or will it be so strange that we disregard it as incomprehensible to us!
I have watched every series of 'Ancient Aliens' on tv and find a lot of the theory convincing but then some is so much of a leap it looks improbable.
Logic says we are not alone in the vastness of space and to think this planet is the only life is a very arrogant assumption.
Yes I red this book and I love aliens. I think that in some aspects he may be wrong, but hus theory makes sense for me and there are many facts that support it, for example Dogon Tribe in Mali, that knew about Sirius C before astronomers and mathematicians calculated that there must be a third star in the system. Also the architecture, for example the Osirion the oldest temple in Egypt was built with better precision and technology than the newer ones. I found out about EVD because I started reading Bible out of curiosity and I by myself came to the conclusion that there must have been a higher advanced civilisation involved. Then I was amazed that im not the only one thinking this way. He is not the first who propagates this theory. There was also a Russian Matematician Matest Agrest. I write sci fi stories about aliens and the stories revolve around the topic Fermi paradox. This is my world. I'm also excited to read about the outer planet's moons. Especially Europa, Enceladus and Titan.
What's your favourite fact about space? Do you believe in aliens? Have you seen Star Trek the Next Generation? I just finished watching the series on Netflix and really wish space travel like that existed. Not in my lifetime I don't think.
Speaking of aliens have you ever read Chariots of the Gods by Erich von Däniken? Really fascinating book that puts a different complex on aliens.
I watched about rough planets, it's fascinating how they are sometimes so hot, created from the nebula directly but too cold to be a star, some could be also thrown away from their original star systems.
I was watching the video before I saw your message, because I was trying to find something. He is on a beach, that’s correct.
Yes, I saw a video where Cox explained that and showed with his hands how it really looks like. The video was taken on a beach.
