What are you currently watching?

Re-watching Downtown Abbey on Prime video. It's fascinating from a historical and sociological perspective.

I loved Downton Abbey, which surprised me as its usually the sort of thing that annoys me, I love the fashions in the later series, where the budget goes up, they're just so glorious.

Another one I really enjoyed was The White Queen, equally gorgeous to look at, almost word for word the same as the books and a different take on Elizabeth Woodville who I think traditional history mistreats and of course Richard III and the Princes in the Tower.

I love the costumes too, especially the evening dresses. But I imagine living like that all the time must have got tedious, and grand houses must be lonely if you live there all the time. You couldn't garden or go shopping - two of the joys of 'ordinary' life.

I'd forgotten about that, but I loved it. The sets were amazing.

Did you ever watch Mr Selfridge? I think that program showed just how much shopping you could do. 

I don't think many of the shops we have today would have existed back then, lots of people had bread, meat, fish, vegetables and groceries delivered.

I agree that I would have found it tedious, lovely clothes dosen't make up for the fact that you were treated like a fashion doll.
