Share ideas for making Christmas cheery and less onerous for singletons

Some of us like being alone at Christmas - many dread this time of year. Any singletons share how they make Christmas a good experience?

Mine

1. enjoy looking at decorations in shops, looking at others' ideas on line - then choosing my decorations

2. find pleasure tidying my home

3. finding and taking nice things to charity shops and food bank

4. making things ahead, like mincemeat, sloe gin, cranberry sauce

5. reminding myself how lucky I am to live in a warm, safe home with many resources

  • Hi I'm single and Christmas is a pretty hard time of year really. I see my siblings with their partners and kids and it can be a sad reminder that nothing like that is in my life.

I love your list! It's good to remind yourself how lucky you are to live in a warm safe place, I do this too and it always helps. I also take toys to my local children's hospital in December, something I enjoy doing to help out and spread some cheer.

Something I also do that you may enjoy is Christmas baking! I like to make Christmas puddings, Christmas fairy cakes and gingerbread men. I'm not very hungry at all (Something I'm working on) so I usually end up giving them to my family or donating them at the bakery. I really enjoy baking and this time of year, with Christmas music playing quietly, I get to baking and that's one thing that helps get me through Blush

  • That sounds lovely!.

I like to get absorbed in drawing or just being out in nature, and that helps me cope with everything.

Baking with music sounds like such a nice way to spend the day and spread a bit of cheer.
