Halloween

Ok so I have decided I’ll stick around a little longer but will probably take a break from here soon. For now though I’ll post about Halloween! Jack o lantern

Ok so I’m not a lover of the event if I’m honest but as I’ve got older I have somewhat got into it a little bit more. Now I’m in my flat I don’t have to worry about the trick or treaters lol! Think my mum is going to come around to mine as well to avoid them lol!

How am I going to celebrate it? I will no doubt be playing Luigi’s mansion 3, hopefully the last level on Simpsons hit and run and of course play ACNH Halloween event despite the fact I only have five villagers on my island right now and like one pumpkin decoration on the island (I only started the island on the 10th lol). Might also watch some SpongeBob episodes which are Halloween themed too. The only decorations in my flat are two little light up metal pumpkins which once had Halloween shortbreads in. But I ate them! I can’t get over how much effort people have actually gone into decorating their houses and front yards though. Do hope this doesn’t take over Christmas ha!

So what you do plan for Halloween? Do you like it? Do you not care for it? Feel free to let me know!

  • I don’t think I have ever been trick or treating at all to be honest. Say we used to get sweets etc but where I lived growing up was just a small village and it was very quiet so we could get away with having the lights on but when we stopped buying sweets we turned the lights off and Sod’s Law people came so we had to pretend to be out. Since moving up north just before lockdown I think we had one lot of trick or treaters but my parents needed the outside lights on so they could see where they were driving and I wasn’t going to answer whilst I was in the shower lol!

My mum had said that about clothing when she was growing up, she never did it herself but people would just tend to find random materials and dress up, or just wear masks or stickers on their faces hehe. I’ve noticed more houses being decorated for Halloween and I have to admit I do like those light up twinkling cobwebs. But I can imagine all that like fluffy fabric web like stuff to be a nightmare to take down. It’s getting more like Halloween strictly each year lol!

  • I enjoyed Halloween when I was a child and remember one or two occasions when I went out Trick or Treating. Times were very different back then, and there wasn't the expectation there seems to be now that one would end up with a pile of treats. Also, one had to be prepared for the possibility that someone might opt for a trick before they handed out a treat. Halloween costumes were nothing like they are now. For example, if one wanted to dress as a witch, the costume would often consist of a black bin bag with holes cut out for one's head and arms, with a shop-bought witches hat.

Now that I am middle-aged with an adult son, I suppose I feel indifferent about Halloween. I don't really get out much, but if I happen to pass homes where people have really made an effort with outdoor Halloween decorations, I do find myself smiling, and thinking how incredible it all looks.

I have been living in my current home for about 25 years, and can probably count on one hand the number of times I've seen trick or treaters in my immediate neighbourhood, or had them calling at my home. I don't bother buying in treats, or making Halloween treats. If I did, there is probably a good chance that me and my son would have difficulty resisting the urge to eat them ourselves.

  • 26 years ago I can tell you the scans were super fuzzy and my parents couldn’t even tell what gender I was until I was bornRofl for some reason my mum has those pictures of the scans in my memory box and not hers lol!

As for these showers and parties what they are, well basically money grabbers for companies. I completely agree with your idea with the pub though. The showers are basically just shower the baby with gifts. I think Thinking

  • What's a baby shower anyway, or a gender reveal party? I supse I can understand the gender reveal thing more these days as scans are so clear you often cannot avoid knowing, unless you don't look at all. I guess lots of people feel under pressure to tell everyone the gender of the bay they're expecting, so as they know whether to buy blue or pink stuff. In my day when you looked at a scan you'd think you were having a blizzard they were so fuzzy, I think not knowing what you were having was part of the fun.

I wonder if the pubs offeering baby shower packages do some nice non-alcoholic drinks, because it would certainly make a change from the usual horrid options.

  • Hey if you enjoy trick or treating then keep doing it. You don’t have to be a child to do it, just have fun. I get what you are saying about the dress up, Halloween is like the only day where you can have like a dress up day (or night rather), it doesn’t have to be spooky or anything. The only other place that seems to have some fun outfits is wherever the darts competitions take place. I’ve seen various outfits there too. If I were to dress up I’d probably be princess peach or someone.

  • I like to dress up and go trick or treating with my siblings. And maybe I’ll watch some Halloween themed episodes of like Curious George and Gravity Falls or something.

Halloween is pretty much the only holiday I like. Trick or treating gives me mini excitements of socialization but all it requires is going up to somone door for two seconds and leaving. It’s dark which eliminates some overwhelm. Get to wear costumes that would be strange to wear otherwise. And sort my candy afterwards and do trades

People always think I’m younger than I am (a few days ago my sister elementary school thought I was a student) so I think nobody will notice or mind that I’m 18… I suppose I’m robbing children of candy but it’s a lesson on sharing haha

  • Oh wow! That spider would freak my mum out no doubt as she hates even small spiders. She hates this time of year and it’s worse now there are people getting big furry spiders and tarantula decorations for outside. I think the only way you could get me to hold one of those decorations is to give them like cute eyes and faces but that wouldn’t even help my mum I don’t think.

We used to get sweets for trick or treaters as well when I was younger but hardly anyone came and one year we had like three bigger bags of various sweets and chocolates and we only had one group of trick or treaters who were from my school so we just gave them all the chocolates and sweets. But the year later when we didn’t get any sweets or that we ended up getting loads of trick or treaters so we had to ignore the door bells and knocks etc.

Think my mum is coming to see me to get away from it all on Friday as the outside lights come on automatically so she can see where she is going in the dark and don’t think they can be turned off so yeah.

  • I used to get sweets for trick or treaters, but as most years no-one comes around I don't bother any more.

Some years ago I did make a six foot long female black widow spider (mostly anatomically correct and 50 times actual size) for someone I knew who was organising a Halloween party for the children at the local army camp - I still have the spider hung up in the corner of my library.

  • If I can send them then I will. Her jumper arrived an hour ago and it fits perfectly.

  • I’m going to is having a Halloween party bought my dog a Halloween jumper for her to wea

You know we are going to need pics of course!

  • Oooh sounds like you will hopefully have a great time! Omg that jumper sounds super cute too!

  • I hope so too.!!

    I don't think I have a favourite track, just yet.(•‿•)

  • I think this year I’ll stay in buy some sweets and chocolates for the trick or treaters I must remember to keep my porch light on and put a pumpkin outside my house this year so they come knocking. On Saturday the day after Halloween the autism hub I’m going to is having a Halloween party bought my dog a Halloween jumper for her to wear and I’ll bake some Halloween treats for the event as well.

  • Good for you! I hope you are enjoying MK8 deluxe! I love that game so much! I actually have the dlc as well so I have like over 90 tracks Grin my fav is grumble volcano though. Do you have a favourite track?

I don’t know why people are so thoughtless but I also think these bullies were intentionally trying to upset me and hurt me and they knew what they were doing manipulating me. Even the family did it so I guess that’s why I feel guilty and struggle with the traumas but I do hope one day I’ll get over that.

  • Why are people so thoughtless sometimes?

If it makes you happy, please don't let anything anyone else says stop you.

My husband laughed at me when I told him I was going to buy a second hand Nintendo switch, but it didn't stop me. I can now play Mario kart deluxe.

  • Thank you! Yeah gaming is a real help for me I’ll be honest, it can distract me and keeps me focused and I’m very grateful for your comment. I’ve been bullied for my love of gaming and which games and characters I play and that has really shattered me and caused me so many issues and struggles with guilt. I still have moments where I have to put everything away to get rid of the guilt but it shouldn’t be this way. Some games I still won’t play due to the bullying I got in the family. So thank you for noticing and supporting my love of gaming it means a lot to me!

Say I am loving doing ring fit because not only is it a game but it actually gets me fit and in shape but people don’t seem to understand that.

And yes defo a big bonus being in the flat that I can’t get any trick or treaters but I do hope I don’t have my buzzer going off.

  • Bonus for you living in a flat, so no trick or treaters.Jack o lantern

It's great that you are so into your gaming, I can tell it makes you really happy.

  • That’s ok! Say I don’t really do much either lol and it’s only really since I was given one of those metal pumpkins and play my games that makes me feel a bit connected to Halloween. I’m defo not as into it as others and I defo put more effort into Christmas!

  • This is the first year I've dipped my toe into it celebrating Halloween.

So I bought few items from IKEA online under the heading HOSTAGILLE. Pumpkin spice candles, and a couple of wooden Moose.

I know it's probably a very weak connection to Halloween, but it's enough for me at the moment.

  • I completely agree with you there. I think Halloween is just another money maker thing and I never understand why kids would want to do all scary things like this, I mean they get scared of all this stuff the rest of the year but guess they do anything for sweets and candy etc! I actually remember watching a cartoon mr bean episode where he was dressed as a vampire and he actually scared the kids off lol. And the house decorations are definitely a money grabber and we have defo got more like America in this respect which I can’t say I really like if I’m honest. I mean Halloween is more of an American thing but I get the impression they use our country as the theme for Halloween for some reason. I’ve also noticed pubs that now host baby showers and gender reveal parties and I’m like what?! Are we in the uk anymore? It does annoy me I’ll be honest.

I think what you have said is very interesting and I defo think that’s a more accurate way to should I say celebrate Halloween. Only trick or treating I’ll do is on my animal crossing Island ha!
