Workplace learning

Hello

It's performance appraisal time at work. My manager has suggested some online linkedin courses I could look at. Currently this is what's on offer training wise through work. I'm not sure if this type of learning would be helpful or not given I am autistic. Any views welcomed please.

Thank you

  • My manager has suggested some online linkedin courses I could look at. Currently this is what's on offer training wise through work. I'm not sure if this type of learning would be helpful or not given I am autistic

This will depend on your learning style and of course how the courses are presented.

The advantage of the online training is that you don't have to do it in conjunction with others and if you need to can review and repeat sections as much as you need.

What aspects of the training are of concern?

  • I know for therapy some types aren't helpful for autistic people ie traditional CBT and I didn't know if this also applied to learning. I don't think it does upon reflection

I didn't find online learning as troublesome as classroom learning as I could control the pace, stim if I wanted, play music in the background or whatever helped me regulate.

If want to ask to do this study at home then I would ask your manager to agree ways to measure the uptake, ideally through passing some sort of exam at the end of the course or similar so you can prove you are using the time out of the office productively and thus make them more trusting of you doing it again in future.

Give the training a spin and see how you get on - hopefully it will be a peasant surprise.
