General chat about not a lot thread

I think I saw Melania Trump smile properly for the irst time ever to day, she was with Catherine visiting some scouts, had one small child on her lap and was playing with others, I've never seen her look so human.

I wish this site wouldn't decide it's randomly going to sign me out and that when it does my cursor would work properly and not stay stuck, it never matters what mouse I use, it always does it to annoy me.

I had an oddity the other day, I was coming in from outside and realised a draft was blowing under my toes, I looked down and I had a hole in the toe of my slippers!

  • Been really blown about today, it's coming your way to those of you in the south and east! I've had to bring all the bins inside and the door's been knocking itself. All the furry family have been hunkered down, snoozing thier way through it, although I will have to see how the chickens have faired in a minute, make sure they've not had their feathers blown off.

  • You're not the only one on here who loves strictly - my kids grew up watching their dad regularly brought to tears watching it :-)  In a world where people hide their emotions and/or hide from them dance is a perfect antidote :-)

  • Ahh I’ve never heard of it but I will have a look out for it. I do remember watching things like DIY SOS, 60min make over, Kirsty Alsop home made homes etc which I thought were really good to watch but I will have to look for the design masters. I suppose my taste is more of a modern but also cozy place maybe? I’m quite minimalist if I’m honest, like I just have neutral painted walls and same carpets in each room with a few photos on some walls. I do however like to add some bling haha. But if I was in like a house in the country side I’d probably have more of a ranch or cozy theme.

  • Chaise Longues are expensive and ones you do get are often totally knackered and still go for megabucks as lots of upholstery students do them up as projects. I'd like one too, I think I'm naturally a chaise creature. I'm sure theres lots of videos on youtube that would help. If you paint an old piece of furniture and it dosen't work or you don't like it, it's only paint so you can easily change it.

Have you ever watched Interior Design Masters? You might get some ideas from them, although some of them of terrible, so bad that me and Mum call it Infeior Design Masters. But at least you can get an idea of what dosen't work, some of them are into maximalism, all clashing colours and patterns, it's like looking at a migraine! I think it's horrible but others love it. You can get some really good tips on how to distress mirrors and use gold/silver/copper leaf which isn't that expensive.

  • I think Bill Bailey was assumed he wouldn’t win because he was “older” but he proved that age is just a number and it was good to see him win. And may Caroline rest in peace.

Ah ok to those divots, love little life hacks like them so I will have to give them a try some time. The remaining carpets should get fitted on Friday! I might have a look for furniture like that too as I like doing my own things and getting creative with stuff like that. I actually remember watching a tv show called Money for nothing which was about people recycling or binning old things but they got made into something different. I would also like to get a little chaise longe or however it’s spelt for my hallway too!

  • I liked Caroline Flack and Bill Bailey too, I had the feeling he wasn't supposed to be such a good dancer let alone win.

If you want to remove divots from carpets then according to the chap on Stacey Solomans, Sort Your Life Out, putting a cloth over the divot and then giving them a shot of steam from a steam iron will bring the pile back up again.

Check out local auctions for furniture, you can get things like those massive old wardrobes for less than a fiver, you can paint them, do decoupage or anything to make something unique and interesting. Auctions usually have a "man with a van" around who delievers large purchases for a small sum. You can do the auctions online but it's a good trip out to and look at what they have, it's like a massive charity shop for general auctions.

  • Strange you say about your hovering finger sending a post. My iPad has decided to become super sensitive to my fingers hovering over the screen. It’s as if I’m clicking on links without making contact with the screen. The touch sensitivity adjustments have remained in the same setting for months, so its not that.

  • Ahh brilliant thank you for those tips! Will defo ask you for more if I need any! Say I have a tree skirt anyway so no one will see what it will be standing on anyway lol. Might do the same with some trees on tables. Rest the table on the boards. Then hide with some fake presents haha! Say I’ll probably have a different arrangement again next year! Just whilst I’m waiting for all the furniture to come haha!

  • I’m worried my Xmas trees will dent my new carpets.

It is best to put a board of some kind under the tree to distrubute the weight and stop it forming little divots in the carpet.

Better still, use a tray or something with a curved edge as the base to it so there is no transition line with the shallow dent it will still make. You can put a foam sheet on the tray so the tree does not slide about too.

  • All my Christmas decs are in boxes in my living room at the moment because I am lacking storage and furniture! I’m actually so tempted to put them up before Halloween but I’m worried my Xmas trees will dent my new carpets.

I also relate to Squidward off SpongeBob too much

  • Fair enough. Say I don’t really use PCs or laptops that much as I’m more of a phone or iPad user lol. I’m not really that great with tech if I’m honest. I only use my laptop if I’m going to play a remake of a game I used to play as a kid for nostalgia or the sims4 lately! I just wish tech was simpler but apparently it is simpler who knows

  • I won't be getting a new, new pooter, just a reconditioned one that's new to me. HP are a bit marmite you either love them or hate them and I hate them and won't have any HP device connected to any pooter of mine. I've had to much stuff automatically download from HP stuff, like search bars that take up half the screen, that I can't seem to get rid of as they keep coming back, they hide stuff in random places on your hide drive. One friend loves them and will always choose them over anything else.

I suspect I'll end up with another PC and be bound to a desk, although to be honest I rarely take this lap top anywhere else with me, it's certainly never left the house.

  • Ugh I can feel your pain and frustration reading your message. I suppose if you are able to hang on till Xmas that may be more ideal and Xmas isn’t that far off now, less than 3months. You could maybe try and get another PC on Black Friday or cyber Monday too maybe? I would recommend the hp laptop convertible as it can be used as either a laptop or a tablet device though it’s not as light as an iPad of course. I tend to use my iPhone when I’m on here but I’ve also found the loading to be a problem and random posts just pop up in random places at random times despite not being recent. It’s also taking me a few attempts to post my messages too which can be super annoying

  • ahh Ed doing gangnam style is a real good way to make you happy, I also watch him to cheer myself up. Might do that now with my jet lag depression. I also watch Ann Widdecombe doing any dance (particularly samba and tango) as she actually really made me laugh hard too. I don’t know what she is like in politics though so I am just purely going on strictly here.

I never really like anyone that has won but I have liked the ones who won from 2022 so far. Also didn’t mind Caroline Flack if I’m honest too and liked Bill Bailey too. Watching him win in lockdown cheered me up. This is all my opinion though

  • Omg he is honestly such a kind and caring person and as you say puts his partners first! It would be lovely to see him win for once though. If I’m honest I actually thought he should have won when he got to the final that year if I’m honest, I know he was dancing with a man but I thought they both did a great job that year.

  • My pooter seems to be dying, it's not just this site, it's pretty much all of them, have to either wait until xmas or until I've paid the overdraft the MOT bill of £450 is going to do to me. The port's don't seem to be working or only intemitantly, the track pad's acting up, it can't decide if it wants to be clicked or tapped, it's really annoying when I'm trying to move the page down and I can't get past the end of a post without the cursor disappearing sometimes nnot to be seen again, or at other times, appearing randomly in the middle of a word and anything else I type is in the middle of a word where it shouldn't be. The keys are getting insensitive and a few are over sensitive and the space bar keeps ignoring me.

  • Assuming you are using a laptop with a touchpad - many people have problems with them.

The solution is to use either an external trackball or mouse.

  • Jay was brilliant.

May favourite dance is the Argentine Tango too.

I'm not sure how the judges mark either, I know they do have follow the rules for steps, what are basic, more advanced steps etc and that there are rules about lifts, like the American Smooth can have 3 lifts, in a waltz you can be twirlled but at least one foot must stay on the floor.

If for some bizarre reason I was to be on Strictly then I'd love to have Johannes as a partner, to be honest I think he'd be the only one tall enough for me to dance with.

Another little weirdness from my pooter it decided to send a post because my finger way hovering above the track pad.

  • Oh yes, I love Johannes because he puts his partners first and treats them with the utmost respect. He is a wonderful man.

  • I could never work out the rules about behaviour on Strictly and I was never sure how much of Brendan’s behaviour was serious or not. Talking about rules, I don’t understand how the judges mark. Sometimes they mark on the performance, yet at other times, especially in the last weeks of the series, they seem to give marks ‘for effort’, or just because the person ‘deserves it’.

Yes, Anita Rani’s paso was brilliant. I really love the Latin dances, but the Argentine Tango is my favourite.

    Ed Balls was very funny.

From a few years back, Jay McGuinness’ jive was the standout for me. I could watch his armography on a loop forever.
