New to gaming. Switch advice.

Hi everyone

I’ve seen some of you talk about gaming here, and it’s made me think about trying it too. I’m looking at getting a Nintendo Switch (but I’m not sure about the normal one vs the Lite).

I would probably get a second hand one from Cex.

I’m totally new to gaming — would you recommend it for beginners, and what games should I start with?

Thanks

  •   ‘s got some great advice here. Biggest one is Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for sure because that one is pretty good for beginners. My personal go-to game is Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Kirby games tend to be fairly easy, so Kirby and the Forgotten Land is another great recommendation. I think The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild could be a little tricky for beginners, but it is a beautifully made game. I haven’t played Two Point Hospital, but from what I’ve seen I could see that being a great introduction into the “simulator” genre of games. Pokémon’s another favorite of mine. Maybe if you are going to try that give Pokémon Sword or Shield a try first? I thought those two were fairly easier than Pokémon Scarlet or Violet.

I also agree with Maisie that I’d recommend the Switch Lite. I’ve had both, and I find that I play handheld mode 95% of the time, with the 5% being when me and my kids all play together.

  • If you have friends get the 1-2 switch games they are so dunno keep going back ro those

  • You're welcome! It's a good idea to get lots of different opinions and then do your own research as well to help you decide on what's best for you. The good news is you can get Mario Kart 8 deluxe on the Switch! Stuck out tongue closed eyes It's such a good game. There's going to be a new Mario Kart World game for the Nintendo Switch 2 as well which I'm sooo excited about. To me the Mario Kart games just keep getting better and better.

Sorry for derailing your thread! It was unintended!

  • Okay and thank you

Money is a bit of an issue, I was thinking of perhaps purchasing a second hand one, because the games seem quite expensive too.

I think I'm a not sure what cross platform means, sorry, is it maybe that one game plays on other platforms. Then the answer is no.

You've mentioned Zelda games. I think I need to look at these as a possible game option.

  • Thank you for the advice.

It's good to get the extra details on how it fits around your lifestyle too.

I have played Mario cart before but it's ages ago when my son was little on a Nintendo Wii. It was my favourite game. I have heard about the Zelda games but I'll do some research into what they're about.

  • I'll just ping , the resident Switch expert, with this post ....

  • If money isnt tok much of an issue I would wise a few months and get the switch 2 it plays nearly every switch 1 game theres just only really games that relie on the it sensor or the he rumble that can’t be played but you can work around this by getting oh joy cons for it

if your warning to play cross platform games like doom etc I’d get a ps5 too as switch ports aren’t that good tbh

mid get a switch for Mario Zelda etc and the eshop exclusive games

  • The Switch lite is mostly for portable use so you can use it on the go. So if you gon on holiday, on a train, to school or college, etc. The Lite is smaller, has a smaller screen and it has no TV output but it's convenient. It's pretty much a handheld device, like the DS but better.

Personally I would go for the Switch Lite. I don't go out much but when I do it's nice to take it with me as it relaxes me if I'm on public transport or in a coffee shop and the battery life is really good.

My must have games are the Zelda games, Pokemon, Mario Kart 8, Kirby and the forgotten land and I love Luigi's Mansion 3. Oh and give Two Point Hospital a try as well. It's a fun hospital management simulation game. I have that one on PC as well.
