Harry Potter

I know there are a few fellow Harry Potter obsessives on this forum. Harry Potter is a subject that gives me a lot of joy and can help me when I'm struggling.

I just wondered if anyone was up for chatting some Harry Potter - favourite characters, favourite scenes, differences between books and films etc?

Please no JK debates though. Just light hearted discussion of the content of the books/films themselves.

  • I love the first 3 books and films after that it was so so for me im never sure why though although not having Richard as dumbledoor didnt help

  • I definitely prefer the books.

I loved the first Fantastic Beasts film and thought following Newt was a great idea. I loved delving further into the fantastic beasts and the differences in other countries magic wise. But then the 2nd film ruined it for me. They messed with the original Harry Potter timeline and plot and the story got way too complicated. I thought it was a massive shame as it had so much potential.

I'd like one about Riddles youth but I would be concerned that they would make similar mistakes.

I have a lot of Harry Potter Lego. It's become a bit of an addiction. I currently have 2 sets waiting for me to build. I'm trying to be really patient because I have a long period of work in the summer that I find difficult so I want to have the Lego to fill some of the time. Admittedly it's probably only going to fill a couple of days because I will obsessively build it until it's done.

  • I think I was about 10 when I first read it and I'm a tiny bit older than you now so very similar. I'll never be over it either.

  • Oh I'm sure and I bet they have to work really hard. But there just seems something really exciting about being behind the magic.

  • Hi. I love Harry Potter as well! I started off with the books which I absolutely loved and have read so many times now. They never get old, I could read them for ever! I love the films as well though prefer the books. I also enjoyed the spin off film series - Fantastic Beasts.

Newt is such an interesting and fascinating character so it's really cool they've followed some of his life. I'm hoping they'll do more for other characters as well, maybe like Tom Riddles youth, I think that'd be fascinating.

I also have a great collection of Harry Potter things like the books, dvds, Lego, video games and some plushies.

It's definitely a special interest for me too.

  • I love Harry Potter since I was 12, now I'm 35. I love collecting Harry Potter stuff (like stuffed toys, calendars, agendas, pen, pencils, stickers, lamps, clothes, makeup, notebooks, erasers, posters, postcards, the books, keychains, towels, socks, purses, wax stamps, .. i´ll stop because I will never end haha).

Harry Potter brings me joy, I´ll never be over it Slight smile

  • Long hours, apparently.

  • Yes me too. They must do surely. I never understood why they cut him from the films.

  • Oh wow. How exciting for her. Well it sounds exciting to me anyway.

  • The daughter of an actor friend of mine has just started work as an assistant on the HP TV series.

  • I really hope they add peves in the Harry Potter TV series.

  • Oh and I totally agree about getting different things from the books and films. I love the books more because of all the detail. But they are a commitment whereas I can put the films on whenever I want and it brings some of the things I've imagined to life. I love the music in them as well.

  • Rereading the books is so much fun.

I've been to the studio tours as well and I did really enjoy it.

  • Dobby is ace. He's not my favourite but he's up there.

I've played Hogwarts Legacy but I didn't love it as much as I hoped I would. I think there was just too much storyline and not enough actual Hogwarts for me and the storylines strayed really far from OG Harry Potter.

  • I love the Harry Potter books and the films - currently re-reading the books on my Kindle at the moment (up to Order of the Phoenix currently).

I like the books and films for different reasons - the books give so much more details than the books, but some of the films make me actually feel like I am there myself.

My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and my favourite of the films is the same one.

There are so many characters and actors in HP that I can't pick a favourite lol.

I have been lucky enough to go to Harry Potter Studios twice - first time I had a melt down as I felt really unsure about everything that day (before I found out about my autism) - second time, I absolutely loved it! I bought myself a Hedwig puppet (still have her) and also over the years have either bought myself or have been given as gifts - Hermione's Time Turner necklace, a Snitch Fidget spinner, HP Trivia Special set, Ginny Weasley's wand and quite a few pin badges.

I have to admit, I've not been on the Potterverse fan-fiction site or seen the new TV series as I love all of the original characters.

I am glad there are lots of HP fans out there.

    Mweekie xx

  • I tried reading the books but didn't really like the writing style so I only got through the first two. I watched all the films a few months ago and enjoyed them. I think my favourite character is Dobby and I liked the scenes with the flying car.

Before I ever read any of the books or watched the films I played the video game Hogwarts Legacy, which I loved. That's what got me interested in the books and movies.

  • I do love to reread them but it is a heck of a commitment. Definitely a good burnout activity though.

Yes I will give it a go. I would like to see a more loyal version of the books. But I do have concerns that they'll mess it up.

  • I’m just starting to re-read them whilst I’m in burnout, about to finish number 2.

Do you think you’ll watch the series they’re making?

  • Ye I have that issue with a lot of the films. The first two aren't too bad but after that they miss out so much important stuff. I really like Prisoner of Azkaban on my first reading of it but now I think it's my least favourite. I just don't think I can recreate the feeling of shock I felt when I found out Sirius was the good guy and the rat was the bad guy.

  • Left out of the films, I mean!
