Stop WW3 before it starts, I'm on the spectrum and it scares me to my bones

World War 3 and nuclear war in particular are becoming highly likely, especially because of the potentially unlawful actions of certain countries (such as when Russia invaded Ukraine, and what china is going to do with Taiwan by 2027), if a nuclear war or similar event breaks out, it will lead to a living hell, so it should be stopped before it starts

I have been suffering from severe anxiety, depression, panic attacks, and have become sick, all because of in the news (especially in the apps like Apple News and several uk tabloids and news sites) highly likely going to be world war 3/nuclear war, I have seen "Threads" (1984) which at the time was produced with the input of scientists, doctors, and other experts, if war must happen, the government should distribute euthanasia kits to everyone in the country, so that nobody need suffer the horror of a post-nuclear attack world

  • This is how I see it I was convinced there may of been truth to the whole 2012 thing(I knew it was 99.99% unllikley but I was like oh god what if it’s true) then there was some prediction back in 2017 or something like that that we would all be goners and it was at a time trump was up tj tricks and I was convinced every time I saw a plume shaped cloud it was a missile trial

the more we worry the more we lose our on i guess

world war 3 may happen this year this decade this century this millennium or never at all

I like to think m.a.d would stop a world war

also if the uk ever brings in conscription or national service at the very least make it optional for people with autism adhd bi polar etc because the way if word it if I was called up for war I may or may not end up being a risk to everyone

yes I may be fine but then again  might here a bomb and have a meltdown snd harm my self snd make lots of noise giving away where we are snd obviously thats not in purpose

  • Not only is it news like we have had 24 hour news for many years but thanks to social media you get people chiming in who just want to cause alarm

  • That is a good quote. However, I think socialism / Communism has caused far more wars than capitalism over the years

  • (+ Trump & co imo)

I literally have no idea wth they are going to do day by day. It’s just one random drastic action after another.

  • Yes, as Bertrand Russell observed in 1918 'War is the final flower of the capitalist (including therefore state capitalist) system' Upside down

  • The concluding paragraph of a recent Chatham House ("We are an independent policy institute and a trusted forum for debate and dialogue. Our research and ideas help people understand our changing world.") research paper (about competing visions of international order) recommends to us all that:

"In all of this, it is essential not to discount the role of agency and contingency. Structures matter; leadership is too often underestimated. The people, coalitions and resources that political leaders mobilize may also have a large impact – whether by design or by accident – on the effort to forge a future that is desirable, sustainable and prosperous. We should, where we can, take this lesson to heart and choose our leaders wisely."

  • Thanks for that Vladimir (+ Trump & co imo) Upside down

  • Very helpful thank you. I remember Bertrand Russell said in 1918 'War is the final flower of the capitalist system'.

  • Its going to happen, it has been building up, its just a matter of time!

  • Thread is a horrible film thats all too realistic snd depressing

nukes scare me a lot but so does anything war related i love world war 2 museums but if I had to live it or if a film shows a no holds barred view of it it’s scary

  • Me, I stay away from watching much news at all as I find it overwhelming. I want to say that I studied just war principles of war and I write to say that war can be iniated due to just war principles like Jus ad bello and Jus ad bellum. There are reasons for going to war like  pre emptive reasons. You have to have clearance by the UN Charter 51. I am saying this as war is not passed easily and it doesn't mean that is just coming to an end. I don't know the reasons but it has to have clearance somewhere to make it seemingly justifable in war terms. It is just doesn't mean always we are spinning towards anarchy and WW3.

The UN Charter has given states the right to self defence if attacked. States are expected to respond in a proportionate manner also in accordance with jus ad bello just law guidelines.  Jus ad bellum in short is the just cause in going to war (just cause, competent authority, right intention, proportionality, last resort and reasonable hope of success are guidelines that can determine the just cause of a war). Just ad bello provides the guidelines for how war should war be fought.

  • Good for you, I done the same thing. We don’t need all this news. Just use the time you would normally  spend reading news to focus on the things that make you happy.

  • Stop reading the news. Just stop it. I was getting massive anxiety from reading the news regarding war etc, so, I just stopped reading it. I uninstalled the sky news app and avoided any news information as much as possible. No good will come from it. All it does is add fuel to the anxiety. If you don’t know what’s going on, there’s nothing to worry about.

  • I should have also said in my other reply that I avoided the news for about a year and a half. If the radio was on then on the hour I was covering my ears and tapping my head with my fingers so I couldn't hear. Apparently it was the olympics last year, was it any good? I can watch/consume it again now ok. I think I've just convinced myself that things are probably going to be ok and if not then so what? I don't know how I've done it except that I think I had to go through the mental process of thinking about everything, searching for a solution, realising there wasn't one, and just accepting things.

I completely understand how bad it feels. I lost months of that year in bed doing nothing, crying all the time.

If I can figure it out then I think there's hope for everyone.

  • As the UK government is less likely by far than the Russian, Iranian, Israeli, US or Chinese governments to start a world war, I fail to see how petitioning them will be in any way effective.

  • The problem is that we are being spoon fed so much news in a small amount of time. Thanks to technology.

Consuming all this news really upsets me and makes me fear my future.  Mum tells me to not keep going looking at it cause she notices the change in my moods whenever I have read something, like a nuclear war threat.

I just want to stop reading it and be totally oblivious to everything that is going on at the moment to feel better.

  • I just want to echo what the other users here are saying. 3 years ago when Russia first invaded Ukraine I believed all the scare stories in the news too, I was convinced that nuclear war was about to happen and I suffered extreme anxiety as a result.
But here's the thing, it didn't happen. Just like the previous generation was afraid of it in the 1980's and it didn't happen and the generation before them lived in fear in the 1960's with the Cuban Missile Crisis etc and once again it didn't happen.
No country that currently has the nuclear bomb would be stupid enough to use it because they know it would be used back against them and they would be causing their own destruction. The nuclear deterrent means exactly that, a deterrent. No side would use it because then it would be used against them.

I personally believe the events of the last few weeks have actually made the world a safer place. The rulers of Iran are dictators, opposed by many of their own people, and if they had developed a bomb they promised they would use it against Israel. The events of the last week means it is highly unlikely they will ever be able to develop a bomb, therefore making the world a much safer place.
Anytime rulers like that are prevented from getting nuclear weapons it is a good thing.

All the countries that currently have the bomb are, as I said, too sensible to use it

I hope this allays your fears. I would also add that I know not everyone is a person of faith but for me personally, my faith is my greatest comfort when the news appears scary. I believe God has a plan for all of us and for this world and that knowledge makes me know that the state of the world is not on my shoulders.

Threads is a fictional movie btw, I wouldn't take it too seriously

  • Remember, news is a commercial business. They need people to look to sell papers, subscriptions or advertising.

Catchy stories work and get people coming back.

There will not be a major war because it is not in anyone's interest, it costs too much and most countries don't have the capability.

    Smallish scale events are possible.

I remember the 70's and 80's and it is all posturing.

    Don't watch so much news.

A petition is pointless for matters of national security.

  • I don’t believe that World War III is ‘highly likely’ to happen because that would not be in the interests of the US or Russia. China is a key ally of Russia up to a point, and although it does massive trade deals, it is struggling economically, so it is unlikely to support a World War III. The last thing it needs is further world instability.

It is true that world stability has become unsteady due to Russia’s actions in Ukraine and the situation in the Middle East.

I don’t want to sign the petition because I don’t believe it would be effective. The UK already does not want a World War III and a petition isn’t going to change how they do things.

Far better to focus on the things you can change in your immediate situation.
