What is/are your obsession/s?

Hello, this will be my first time interacting with other autistic people so I’m looking forward to hearing from anyone.

I’d like to hear what obsessions and hobbies you may have. Bonus points for really niche ones, but anything goes.

Mine would be driving safety and theory. I have a special ability to judge my surroundings exceptionally well which makes me quite handy behind the wheel. I also have a copy of the Highway Code that I take everywhere, I don’t know what it is but I just find all that stuff intriguing and quite exciting. There’s a YouTube channel called Ashley Neal that I watch religiously, great if you want to improve your road safety and attitude towards driving.

Thanks for reading.

  • Great thread. I have a number. Long term; Nine Inch Nails (band), since 1988. Longer term; psychology and psychoanalytic theory. To try and fill in the gaps I didn't intuitively pick up in childhood and in parallel made a career out of it. Music more generally, I have music/colour synesthesia so music is a stim.

Medium term: formula one and things mechanical, druidry and Cerridwen, dinosaurs, wood carving, glass paperweights, drumming (as in drumming circles rather than drum kit), doing an activity makes being social manageable. Walking and wild camping/bush craft.

  • I love Formula 1 too. I’ve been watching since about 2008, but I was so young I can’t really remember much. Do you have any favourites in terms of drivers and/or teams that you’d like to share?
