My movie picks of the week - Free Guy and The Hobbit

I watched Free Guy on channel 4 catchup last night and enjoyed it, but now it's unavailable so I can't recommend it to others to watch unfortunately. Today I got half way through watching the first Hobbit movie (An unexpected Journey). I'm not a Lord of the rings fan, but I found myself getting into this film. It's visually really impressive.

If anyone has seen Free Guy, please let me know what you thought of it. I thought the story of a video game non player character who develops into an AI and starts making his own decisions about what he's going to do a really interesting one. Jodie Comer was great in the female lead.

If you want to watch The Hobbit movies, all 3 are currently available on ITVX.

If you're enjoying watching something else, feel free to tell us about it on this thread.

  • I've seen Free Guy. I thought it was ok, enjoyable enough to watch once but I doubt I'll watch it again. I think what didn't interest me about it was, since this was about a video game character and video games have been one of my lifelong hobbies, it was just a representation of what Hollywood assumed it should be like. There were points in it where it definitely seemed farfetched that the entire world was suddenly interested in how this computer generated character was going to save his virtual world. It did have a feeling of trying to force a "what if..." situation but this time with video games. Overall though it was enjoyable enough, I'd rate it middle of the road.

I've never seen The Hobbit but I loved the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, so can't offer an opinion on that.

(By the way, I'm loving these threads, I really feel I can contribute to them!)
