Yes, It's Beltane, the old first day of summer, or as some Pagans say, Hooray, Hooray, it's the 1st of May, outdoor sha**ing, starts today! I wonder If I'll be cencored for that word, even though I've tried to disguise it?

Thank you! Yes, it's the victory of summer, blooming and life in general, against winter, disease and death. It was celebrated by ancient Greeks too, for the same reasons, and we've kept the tradition.

That’s interesting. I love that the ‘midwife’ is called ‘Maia’, from the myth of Maia as a nurturer of the Olympian gods. Maia has become a popular name for girls here over the last couple of decades.

Yes! In Greek May is called Maios, from Maia. Maia is also how we call the nurse who helps the mother give birth. 

I found this image dating c.500BCE that is believed to be of Maia, one of the celestial nymphs of the Pleiades. She was a shy goddess but a bringer of vitality. The month of May takes its name from her.
