Bank Holidays Like them or not?

I'm not a huge fan, it feels like we've got 3 sundays this week and sunday has never been my favourite day. All the telly gets messed up, there feels like a lot of pressure "to do something". Most of the bank holidays are religious ones and many aren't Christian so have little attachment to them. There also seems to be a huge social divide, white collar workers get to have time off, blue collar ones don't, when I worked in a small independent shop, we closed for bank holidays, some of our customers would complain, they were off work and so were we, younger folks seemed to have no idea that shops might want to close that we workers had homes, families and stuff to do.

How about you, do you like them, or are they a bit blah?

  • I like the time off work, but don't like how busy everything is. I'd prefer to work them and just have the time back.

I would often work the few days between christmas and new year. It was my favourite time to work. The office was quiet, fewer calls and client interactions, and the work was generally more relaxed. Then one year my manager suggested I would have to go on client site for those days. I don't know if they were joking or not, but I booked them off that year and every year since.
