Expensive items

I can't help feeling that £80 for sunglasses was a bad deal. Specsavers roped me in for a deal with my normal glasses with transition lenses.

Looking back though I've bought a few expensive items and then felt cheated a bit later on.

Some of my not so good expensive purchases

  • Terracotta plant pot bundle £88.12
  • Farmhouse wooden chair and table set £215
  • Monster High doll series 1 £270 - ps. my parents said this was a bad deal I thought it was a bargain.
  • Leather seats for my Peugeot to replace the gross cloth material seats the car came with £400

What expensive items have you bought before?

  • My most expensive purchase was my house, followed by my car. Both worth the money.

I don’t buy many clothes, but when I do, I buy good quality wool or cashmere jumpers as they last much longer than cheaper ones. I think it works out less expensive in the end and it means less shopping around. I buy good quality, breathable, wet weather walking jackets (Paramo) because they are efficient at keeping me dry and warm. I have had my jackets for years and they are really comfortable around the shoulders and are reparable. I expect they will last for years more.

  • A lot of the stuff people buy, I wouldn't even consider, like private number plates, I don't get it, why?

I think the most expensive thing I've ever bought is a car, an older model at that. I dont' get the attachment to big badge cars and prestige things like that.

Thats not to say I buy cheap things only, I buy the best quality I can afford, often stuff in sales or shops like TKMAXX.

  • To be fair I think most things are overpriced nowadays, I'm not surprised by the prices listed.

Unless you get something second hand or from a cheaper brand shop, things are expensive!

I've also seen plant pot bundles for that price and higher.

  • That’s where Apple Pay kicks in….

  • Lol literally me all the time XD

  • IKR they are an adorable range and there's so many to collectBlush Will you buy them again? I don't think I would ever be able to sell mine.

  • not a regretful purchase...

This actually means that you might not regret it but I possibly will.  Especially because you know where I am going this morning.  It's not exactly warm today!! Laughing

Sometimes I DO regret being Autistic and HAVING to follow through on more or less everything I say.  I'm beginning to realise why people say 'fingers crossed' as they head off into potential disasters now !! Laughing

  • That's such a cute doll! I had some Monster High dolls, sadly I don't have them anymore, I sold them over the covid lockdown.

  • I hear buckets and spades for the beach are quite well priced and not a regretful purchase... Grin

  • Most things I buy are on the cheaper side, from charity shops and the like, I’m not swimming cash (I wish) so I try to buy things not too cheap but cheap enough that it doesn’t break me.

Probably the most expensive thing I bought in recent times was the new special edition Harry Potter books 1-7 hardback set, that came to about £60 on Ebay. A bit pricey for me but I love Harry Potter so I definitely have no regrets in purchasing the set.

The most expensive thing I’ve bought in my lifetime was my car, Mini Cooper D and that was £2,000, though I paid for it over time. No way I could buy that outright lol!
IMO not worth the cost, cars are boring Joy

  • Re the Sunglasses.  Yes it is a bad deal.  Considering what they cost to produce.  As are the other things you list.

If you want prescription sunglasses, and actually have your prescription - you can order them online for a fraction of the price Specsavers and others charge on the high street (and they wonder why fewer people shop on the high street)

Pot bundle?  Likely cheaper elsewhere too.

I'm no expert in Monster High doll's but if you collect these things then you'll know the value - and the value isn't always measured in cash.

Ordering car seats from car manufacturers is rarely cheap.  They make fortunes in extras.

BUT I've bought many things that were meant to be a 'bargain' saving me a fortune on the prices of others, and they turned out to be junk.  I've just bought a lawnmower that Which recommended yet it broke after three uses and has to go back - so yeah, it was expensive rubbish.

  • In most cases I haven’t regretted things I’ve bought that were a bi5 more expensive because they tend to be of decent quality and therefore they last a long time - so in the long run they are good value. My policy is to buy good quality things but not buy many things overall. Quality not quantity.

  • I've never had much money, unless I set out with a specific purchase in mind, if I see something I quite like, I put it back and walk away and have a think about what I prefer the company of that object or the company of my money? 8 times out of 10 I've either forgotton all about the object which proves how unimportant it was, or I've decided against it. I have to do this in charity shops, book shops and auctions or I'd have a home full of tat, well I do have a home full of tat, but it's not my tat, it's other peoples.

  • The most expensive thing I’ve ever bought was my phone which came to about 570 as it was on sale at the time down from like 660 or something like that. It has a 50 megapixel camera which I use every day but I’m not sure it’s really worth that much money. It is a good phone though so I don’t know.

I love Monster High and Ever After High dolls. I watched both series growing up, really fun and the dolls are adorable and fun to collect and play with.

I have a First Chapter Apple White doll. She has a cute hair ribbon crown which I just love.

She came with so many extras, including a French sofa.

Do you have many Monster High dolls? I would spend any amount on anything to do with Monster High and Ever After High.

  • Too many to mention, now again and I make an impulsive purchase, most of the time I spend a long time researching everything and agonising over whether I should or not......coats for some bizarre reason, recently bought a leather jacket for about £350 trying to relive my youth! Only wore it a couple of times as I find it too heavy and warm!
