oops, I did it again

I went to the doctors earlier and used thier screen thingy to say I was there, only after doing it all right, I was waiting ages so I went to reception to ask how many people were in front of me in the queue as people who were coming in after me were being seen. Only the screen hadn't worked, it hadn't confirmed I was there and had put me down as a no show, luckily the recpetionist told the doctor that I'd been there all along and I was seen. Why does this sort of thing happen to me?

****************************

Another bug bear was finding out that I have a floating lump in my shoulder joint that could be seen on the x-ray I had a few weeks ago, but the hospital had put it down as no further acton! Now I'm being refered to the hospital, to see what it is and if they can remove it. It's causing me quite a lot of bother, you know when you hit your elbow and your arm goes useless for a few seconds? Thats happening often when I've not hit my elbow, I keep dropping things as my arm's strength suddenly fails and I have to use my left hand to lift things like pots and kettles, luckily I'm fairly ambidextrous.

  • I don't know what model it is, its just a flip top one, 4G, I tink Mums got the destructions, from what I remember of trying to read them before they don't tell you how to do anything useful. It maybe a case of trial and error, I think error is more likely being me, lol

  • doro dumb phone

I'd never heard of one of these until now

I thought I'd be helpful and try to discover if there was some way of communicating where you'd find the 0 if not in the usual place but, of course, there's a plethora of different models and no point in guessing which one you have.

Does it come with an instruction manual, dare I ask?   I mean there's only 2 places you can input anything on a text screen.  Where the message body goes, and where the number goes.  It's a matter of trial and error....

  • And I somehow managed another weirdness, somehow my brightness setting got turned onto 100%, I don't know how, all of a sudden it was so bright I couldn't see anything properly. I actually managed to put it back all by myself with no mistakes....so far.

I'm not sure if its me or the phone, but my new doro dumb phone is making life difficult about sending texts, I can't seem to get the number in the right bar. I'm not enjoying this new phone, I can't find zero, I just get spaces and it seems to have semi predictive text, hte things nearly been frisbeed a few times.

This post is almost entirely for the amusement of O&U, who finds my issues with tech so funny!

  • I'm sorry that happened to you. This is why I hate these digital screens because the touch doesn't always register and it can just bug out, but doesn't tell you or show any signs that it's not worked. Annoying much! My GP surgery does at least have a huge monitor that tells you who's next, which does work pretty well actually. It also tells you how long you're expected to wait, depending how behind the GP is.

  • I had the same happen to me with the screen , a few months later I looked on my phone, my appointment history showed that I hadn’t attended. It quite worried me, I thought they would think badly of me.

I fully understand the washing machine situation, mine tries to do the ‘Hokey Cokey’ when it’s on spin.

  • Hello,

I have the same issue at my local rural GP's but asked very nicely if I could speak to a person instead as touch screens do not work for me at all. they have had issues with people getting quite nasty at times but could see I was not going do anything like that so agreed I could use the front desk.

  • I will in future, some one will probably insist on showing how to use it again and I will keep going to the desk.

  • Maybe you should embraace your inner gremlin and help bring the world back to good old human to human interaction?

We have a touch screen.  You need to input various details and press confirm to tell the wretched thing you are there, but I guess you could always say you don't like it and tell reception instead (or that it doesn't like you)

I don't think I've broken any hospital equipment yet, but I did know someone who broke a dentist chair by exceeding the weight limit.

  • The reception staff at my Doctors are lovely, but they want us to use the screen, if I don't go around breaking these things then people will believe they're infallable and inflict more of them on us. Maybe you should embraace your inner gremlin and help bring the world back to good old human to human interaction?

Apparently bits of bone can break off when one has OA and its probably a bone piece thats touching a nerve every now and again. I've not yet broken an ultrasound or even CT scan, a MRI broke me though, I got so clostophobic I couldn't go through with it, also the bed thing you have to lie on is so uncomfortable my back was in spasms after 10 minutes.

  • Lucky you haven't quarrelled with the receptionist (yet) or they might not have been so helpful.  When are you going to learn to leave anything electronic alone?  Can't you go more than 48 hours without breaking something?  Laughing

We can't give medical advice on this forum (says with irony) so there's little point in commenting on the floating lump in the shoulder or loss of strength in arm.  However, an ultra sound should be able to tell them what the former is.  The latter sounds potentially nerve related, but at least you're headed to the best place now.  (Don't touch anything electrical when you get there)

  • I haven't had that experience at the doctors, but I still don't really trust the screens and prefer to tell a person that I've arrived.

Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I've had shoulder and neck problems over the years so I can empathise, plus I'm also a bit ambidextrous.
