Childhood toy

If you could own and play with one of your childhood toys you owned, which would it be?

I would get Barbie Magic of the Rainbow Elina Doll from 2006. I got this one Xmas from my mum and dad and it became my fave toy ever! I played with her every second I could and took her in to my school show and tell every time we had a show and tell….I treasured her. In the end my mum gave her away to a jumble sale because I was too “old” to play with dolls. I was so upset. I’m in my 20s now and still buy and play with dolls, but if I ever find Rainbow Elina again at a good price I’ll buy her in a heartbeat.

To say I was heartbroken when mine was given away is an understatement!

  • I didn't know you could get extras for them....All the time I played them and never knew that. Polar exploration base sounds an exciting twist, rather than the samey old mansion. Is that your fave one to play or do you prefer the original?

  • I also bought an expansion pack for the game, which has a polar exploration base as the crime scene and so the rooms and weapons are different - it makes a nice change to the traditional mansion one.

  • Thank you for posting this - you have made my day.

You are welcome, I'm glad I could make your day a little brighter! :-)

I miss my tin too. We used to go on yearly holidays down to Seaton and I used to add coins all year long to my little dog tin, it was also a good sensory thing for me listening to the coins jingle jangle sometimes. I hope some day you can find another identical tin......I hope I can find my own tin again, I currently use an ordinary money tin which is a lot less fun.

  • Oh my goodness! I can hardly believe what I am seeing!  Your money tin looks so much like mine in many ways, the tongue looks identical.

The extraordinary thing is that for the last few weeks I have been thinking a lot about my tin, wishing that I could have it back.

Thank you for posting this - you have made my day.

  • Polly Pocket was adorable. I had several sets, my fave though had to be the snow castle ice skating rink set....I played with it for hours and for a long time it was my toy of the moment.

And the Wizard of Oz set xx

I remember this one well and I'm sure it was an Xmas pressie one year.

Did you have a fave set?

  • They sound such cool toys to have and play with.....I never had any Star Wars toys but I did have some books, one was an interesting one...It was a sort of behind the scenes book, had sketches of the ships and characters etc....I might still have it. I will check in my library this morning and let you know.

  • Marble run was a fun game. I used to like the Jenga game too.... :D and also spent time playing Buckaroo. Kids now are more in to computer games but I feel bad for them that they miss out on cool classics like these.

  • I love Cluedo and board games.....I used to be a big fan of it, we had a family game night every Sunday night. Used to play the Game of Life, Monopoly, Cluedo, Operation and Mouse Trap....all I loved to play and the fact we don't do this now still upsets me a little.

We had a Simpsons edition of Cluedo as well. I always wanted to get the Harry Potter edition....never managed to get that one though. Weirdly it is still something I would love to purchase, but whether I actually will I'm not sure.

  • That sounds lovely and a bit like something I had when I was a child. Not exactly as you described....but I had a money tin that was a dog house and the dogs tongue was functional and swallowed the coins. I can remember shaking the tin and listening to the coins jingle from inside....fun memories for me.

    This was what I had

I'm not sure what happened to it. My mum isn't sure either, probably lost or chucked out.

  • Great thread Legylo!

I had some Polly Pockets growing up and I really miss those. They were my favourite toys, played with them a lot.

  • Probably my marble run. I had hours of fun making different set ups and watching the marbles go through.

  • I had a tin money box in the shape of a dog kennel that I would love to get back. It was beautifully painted with a brown roof, cream brick walls and green grass sprouting up the sides. A shaggy dog looked out through the door. There was a lever which made her red tongue stick out so that you could put a coin on it. When you would press a mechanical switch, the tongue would shoot in and the coin would drop into the kennel.

There wasn’t ever more than a few pence in the tin, but I loved playing with it repetitively, hearing the ping and watching the tongue shoot in. The shape of the kennel, the dog’s red tongue, and the beautiful painted imagery are vivid in my mind. I think the money box was lost in a house move, but I often think about it and wish I could have back. I would sit with it every evening and feed it coins.

  • My Cluedo board game was my favourite ever - and I now have it as a video game, so I can play it again!

  • Great post Legylo, it would definitely be my star wars toys. I had a whole range of them, really annoyed with myself for selling them when I was a teen. I loved my AT-AT and various other vehicles, all the figures, Death Star etc. I've acquired a few new ones but they are not the same as the originals....
