No dark mode filter on the new forum?

Has this not been added for the new forum platform or is it just not displaying in my browser? I use Firefox on my phone and pc. I've lowered my screen brightness for now but it's still bright enough that it hurts my eyes to look at.

  • Not a problem at all.

    I've passed messages on.

    Have a good day,

    Anna Mod

  • Thank you Bunny - I've passed the link on.

  • I have other problems, unrelated to the dark mode which I hope can be sorted too.

I'll just flag this thread, in case you haven't seen it yet:

List of forum faults part 2

  • Thank you anna Mod, I deeply appreciate that. I will drop an email to the community Manager as well, I have other problems, unrelated to the dark mode which I hope can be sorted too.

Appreciate your time and help with this.

  • Hi Enchanted,

I am so sorry that didn't work for you. I'll pass on your concerns to my manager.

Glad Iain could help with another way.

  • Thanks Iain, your an angel! I've added this extension and it's working beautifully for me. My eyes at last, are feeling much better on here. I suffer with over sensitivities but my eyes are the worst thing I suffer with-thanks for the above. You have no idea how grateful I am!

  • Hi Anna Mod, I hope you are having a nice day Blush

I saw that on the main site and have done this, but when you get to the forum it doesn't carry over, not on mine anyway. The button isn't present anywhere on the forum. Luckily thanks to Iain I now have a workaround, using a dark mode extension in Firefox, so far working well for me. Thanks Iain!

Don't mean to complain just I do have really sensitive sight and most webpages are too bright for me. It really hurts my eyes. I was just surprised it's not on here/working like before.

  • Good morning all,

You can change the intensity of colours on the main page for the National Autistic Society

    Link here

    https://www.autism.org.uk/

In the top right hand corner is a toggle to turn from Vivid mode into Calm mode you can then sign in and use the Online Community with the colours of your choice.

    Hope that helps.

  • There is an extension in Firefox called Dark Reader which seems free to install (I think it does ask for a donation for development like most free apps) - I haven't done much more research into it bit it does seem to work well here:

  • I use Firefox on my phone and pc.

You can setup Dark Mode in Firefox:

To enable dark mode in Firefox, click the menu button (three horizontal lines) in the top right corner, select "Add-ons and themes," then click on "Themes" and choose the "Dark" theme to activate it.

  • I do very much miss non-vivid mode. Even with nightlight switched on the current forum colours do make my retinas scream a fair bit.

  • I would like a dark mode filter too.

  • That's a good point. I always wrongly percieve feedback as something negative, I forget it also means suggesting new things that could benefit other users. I will be emailing the forum manager in the hopes that the dark mode will be implemented again. I found it so useful and have already felt the burning of my eyes without it.
I love Worlde. Them adding a dark mode on it was like a a gift from heaven for me.

  • I'd love this, too. I use dark mode whenever it's available as an option.

Whilst I think that awareness - in general - of its value as an accessibility feature is growing, there are still plenty of apps, for example, that still don't offer it. I now always make sure to send feedback accordingly (there's usually a link, somewhere in an app, to do that), including explaining that it would benefit me and others in respect of autism-related sensory sensitivity.

I've been particularly delighted by the recent addition of dark mode options for the New York Times games app - for Spelling Bee, Wordle, etc.

It does seem ironic to me that the NAS doesn't currently offer it here.

  • How disappointing. I'm surprised it was removed as on the original forum it was used by so many members... Maybe they will readd it at a later time. I wish other sites I use had a dark mode screen filter, it would be useful. It's not so bad on my mobile as I have a blue light filter but on my pc it hurts my eyes.

  • I'd like to add to this. I found the dark mode incredibly useful, and was really sad when NAS removed it. I'm using Google Chrome. I used to point to this as an example for other websites who were overwhelmingly bright to consider, and now I can no longer do so.
